New monitor arrived last night. Works great, so that's taken care of. The battery in my laptop may be dying, though. I'm not sure I care about that, though, since I plug it in 99% of the time. Also, my left rear turn signal is out. Le sigh...

Cars, houses, computers: the universe's biggest monetary black holes.

Pop-operatic singer at work last night. Katherine Jenkins. Her voice was OK, the show was simple, and she was very easy on the eyes... but it was amazingly cheesy.

Mary Black today. Should be simple as well.

Ed, I know you're into racing games. Do you play with a wheel and pedals or just the controller?

Kinda scared. I am up with my Lady celebrating her Birthday. Downtown La Crosse was having their holiday open houses. We went to a jewlery store to look at rings. FINALLY we found a ring I could afford and she likes, and it was on sale. She was practically dancing around knowing we found it. We also found a matching ring for myself.

Scary

So far I've been using the standard controller.

I might buy a wheel at some point after I get GT5. But I imagine it will be like learning the games all over again.

Unfortunately, there's no universal console wheel... so I'd have to buy one for the XBox, and a different one for the PS3.

I'm buying most of my racing titles for PS now. I figure that will be the system to get the wheel if I have to choose. A lot more choices. There's only a couple of decent ones for the XBox. And they are all expensive.

Why do you ask? Thinking about getting into it?

Not really. I used to enjoy racing games, but none of the recent ones I've tried has really done it for me. It seemed like it might be a funny party thing, though, if you had a couple wheel and pedals setups. Eh, maybe I'll check out Rock Band 3, though.

Yeah, that's kind of why I was interested. The Pro Mode guitar and keyboard. I certainly wouldn't buy it without the Squire. On the other hand, I could just...play those things for real. It's going to depend on how fun the experience actually is and who else I know who might be up for playing.

It seems like a good way to force me to practice, and learn some songs using a weird tablature program.

It would be cool if they came up with a "Super Advanced" mode for trained musicians, and had the sheet music scroll by for each instrument. That would make you a killer sight reader in a hurry.

Just got notification that the XBox repair is complete!

We'll see how long it takes to get shipped back.

Work last night was pretty easy.

I have a day off... but no plans for a change. The lady is fighting a cold and exhaustion, so all plans are postponed.

So I'll finish the laundry, do some shopping, some housework, and catch up on some rest... though not necessarily in that order.

This is a must-watch...I've never seen a Star Wars mash-up done from the Rebel POV that didn't include the main heroes (Luke, Han, Leia, et al) until now, and the video is very well done, besides.

K_K, I guess I meant not the main heroes as the focal point of the mash-up.

Went to hang out with my old roommates in my former university town (to get away for a few days), and re-met an amazing girl I'd been introduced to about 5 years ago when I was still in school, but basically lost touch with. We spent the better part of two days just talking. And I felt like a normal human being for the first time in two weeks.

Here's the kicker... I met her through my ex-wife. We were on the verge of dating at the time, and she dragged me along to this girl's birthday party... On a positive note, though, the day after that party, she told my now-ex, "If you don't want him, he's mine."

So yeah... Between her being somewhere between a friend and acquaintance of my ex, and the ink not even being dry on the separation agreement, I'm not in a hurry to rush into anything... But we agreed that there was no harm in getting to know each other a little better in the mean time.

Which also means more excuses to take road trips to see my old roommates! It's been four years since I lived in that house, and it still feels more like home than anywhere else I've ever lived, and they still feel more like family than most of my own family. It's only a 90 minute drive.

I am guessing separation agree != divorce

although, a divorce in the US can go pretty fast if you either, have little assets to divide, or quickly agree how to split said assets

In Canada, you can only get divorced if there's been adultery, significant mental or physical abuse, or you've been separated for a year.

Because of the hassle and cost involved in the first two, most people choose to separate, and then draw up paperwork regarding the division of assets and liabilities, custody of children, support payments, etc... All the typical divorce stuff, except you do it when you first separate so that after the year's up you can just go to the DMV, give 'em $250, and they give you your divorce papers.

I'm actually a big fan of the one-year waiting period... You're allowed to live together for up to 90 consecutive days without having to start the one-year wait over again, so while it won't happen in my case, I've got a few friends that decided to give it another shot, worked things out, and have been happy ever since. Without the wait, they'd have just been another pair of divorcees.

in America, we have the no-fault divorce. And then worry when Gays and lesbians want to marry that the sanctity of marriage is being destroyed

Congrats on another rugrat/ mouth to feed/ addition to the fambly, Ike!

What's that make now?

Work went surprisingly smoothly. Long day. Lot of work. 16 different bands. But it all went well. No real stress.

Things are really heating up with the lady. Looks like she and the kids are coming to Thanksgiving with my family.

And I have to very, very careful where I open any text-message photo-attachment from her from now on.

Has she got any single relatives? Boston's not that long a drive if there's a pretty girl and some guitars at the end of it.

Not that I know of... but, for you, I'll look into it!

Of course: I do work at a music college. I know many, many members of the female student population that could lead to an awesome experience... musically and otherwise... IF they weren't totally off limits to a staff member... I.E.: Me.

But then... they wouldn't be off-limits to you...

You're from New York. Nobody likes people from New York.

Hrrrmmmm... Friend of mine just introduced me to a 20 year old that enjoys the company of slightly older men. I'm excited by the prospect of getting my ashes hauled, but I don't know how I feel about the 7 year age difference, especially when inside my head, I'm basically a 60 year old man.

7 years really isn't that much, though 20 itself is fairly immature, usually.

general rule i have is noone more than 2 years my junior. I find anymore than that leads to me hating the other person because of said maturity level.

My lady is 7 years younger.

Not a problem these days... but an impossible barrier when we knew each other way back when I was in my late teens/ early 20's.

Still: she's confessed she always had a big crush on me back then. I always thought she was cute.
