I would buy this if it only costs $34 bucks. Unfortunately, the price is a bit steep here ($44 ) so I'll have to wait until it drops down to at least $30.

But isn't this just a remake of an older Pokemon game? The reason why I bought Diamond was because it wasn't some port or remake of another Pokemon game, but was instead an original installment and the first true Pokemon game on the DS. (I'm sorry, but Pokémon Mystery Dungeon was crap.)

Amazon dropped the ball on my pre-order so I wont be getting my copy until sometime next week, but I can't wait until I have this guy following me on my epic journey.

Edit: @GenericNumberedRevan - yeah it's a remake, but it's a remake of Gold and Silver, only the best Pokemon games ever made, educate yourself

@ Salzella: The Gold and Silver generation is hands down THE BEST generation and has you travelling through Johto AND Kanto on an epic quest instead of just one place like every other game... and then at the very end is the most epic boss battle ever...

Time to introduce my team for the time being and what I'm working towards:

Backfire the Typhlosion - fire specialist, knows Flame Wheel, Swift, Blast Burn and Lava Plume. One of my heavy hitters when I need something good and dead.

Belinda the Dragonair - dragon poke and my long-term project. Knows Slam, Draco Meteor, Surf and Dragon Rush. Can't wait to evolve her into a Dragonite, but gorramn is it a long road to lvl 55!

Jet the Pidgeot - flying specialist and wild poke catcher. Knows Fly, Twister, Gust and Quick Attack. The GSC generation is really handicapped when it comes to good bird pokes and I didn't want to rehash a Starly from D/P, so I went with an old favorite.

Rayden the Jolteon - speed demon and all-around superstar. Knows Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Double Kick and ThunderShock. My favorite Eevee evolution and a quick bastard to boot. Hits hard, hits fast and doesn't take any prisoners.

Jed the Torterra - grass and ground specialist. Knows Razor Leaf, Earthquake, Giga Drain and Bite. Three different attack types make Jed the most versatile of my pokes, plus he's pretty much the coolest leaf starter since Bulbasaur.

Spoonz the Alakazam - psychic specialist. Knows Psycho Cut, Psybeam, Calm Mind and Recover. I use him mostly for Psybeam, so I can't want to level him up so he learns more crazy Psychic attacks.

They're remakes of Gold and Silver, which came out a decade ago, so I think it's okay for them to redo it now.

total respect for that choice my man.

@Lynk Former: yeah, damn good games. i once had a bootleg singaporean version of silver that worked smooth as dammit and cost about 5 pounds. good times. god only knows where that's got to. re: getting a DS - if only! however since that would involve shelling out a good 100 squids, and that's like 40 pints of lager, **** that ****. so i will continue to struggle to find a working version and also continue playing FireRed and pretend that it is any sort of consolation. hrrumph.

nice team btw R9! particularly that little yellow spiky scamp, 'natch.

Anyway, what are the main differences between HeartGold and SoulSilver? Or are they basically the same and contain the same amount of content?

If its anything like the other 20 pokemon games, the only differences should be what pokemon appear and what pokemon don't. Of course, there can be other slight differences.

I've never played a pokemon game - is Team Rocket in it? I had a thing for the Team Rocket Girl(?Jessie) back when I was a youngster... I love redheads and enjoyed her flair for the dramatic

Team Rocket is in the game and are the primary antagonists, but Jessie and James appear only in the anime for the most part. Their lone game appearance is in Pokemon Yellow.

MY POKEMANZ, LET ME SHOW YOU THEM

Typhlosion, Pikachu, Pidgeot, Milotic, Golem, HMSLAVE!

Also, buy a DS. Pokemanz is more entertaining than beer, and if you disagree then you don't deserve TO BE THE VERY BEST, THAT NO ONE EVER WAS

Compared to the rest, the only thing that takes these down a level, even if it is a somewhat small detail, is the removal of the Game Corner. Or rather the removal of the slots, and replaced with a Minesweeper-like game, "Voltorb Flip". Doesn't matter how much I suck at MineSweeper, I was pretty good with the Slots. The reason for this? Europe's policies on Gambling, and the recent Merger of the Pokemon Companies of the US and UK.

I'm in Mahogony town atm, team consists of Crocanaw, Noctowl, Graveler, Gloom, Magmar, and Flaaffy. Going to catch me a Red Gyrados.

@Lynk Former: Cool pic. Red kind of looks like Sasuke or Itachi from Naruto. The only thing I'm sad about is that they replaced Espeon with Lapras in the remake. Oh well.

Yeah, that's cause they're trying to make him more like Ash/Satoshi since in the anime he never had an Eevee/Espeon but did have a Lapras.

I got SoulSilver yesterday, on my way to getting the fifth badge in Cianwood City. I've got my trusty Typhlosion named Inferno (the name I gave it in the original Silver) and also two HM slaves... a TROPIUS that knows Fly, Cut, Flash and Rock Climb and a BIBERAL that knows Surf, Strength, Rock Climb and Waterfall... I'm gonna have to get a third one some time to so I can add Headbutt and Wirlpool to the list.

That's all I really need lol. I just battle everyone using the same Pokemon in the story and then once I've gotten all of the badges I start training up a proper team.

nevermind, replaced spearow with a hoothoot, for the simple reason that when it evolves it's nickname 'Kaepora' will make a lot of sense. I'm naming all mine after things from the Zelda universe - my Cyndaquil is called 'Bombflower'

the resemblance is uncanny

im glad GF finally remade GSC. normally i welcome chaneg to this series of games, but i dont welcome having my lead pokemon following me everywhere. i found it extremely annoying in Yellow. and in the original GSC, i didnt really enjoy the inclusion of Kanto. i felt that it took the attention Johto deserved away. i still feel that way. i dont care if Kanto is in 3D now. it doesnt matter to me. but anywhay, i do look forward to creating my dream team of Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Meganium, Noctowl, Scizor and Lanturn

Time for an update!

Backfire the Typhlosion - fire specialist. Knows Flamethrower, Swift, Blast Burn and Lava Plume. One of my heavy hitters when I need something good and dead. Currently at level 53.

Belinda the Dragonite - dragon poke and part of my Big Three of heavy hitters. Knows Blizzard, Draco Meteor, Surf and Dragon Rush. Finally got her evolved before I had to take on Lance and it paid off, especially with Blizzard and Dragon Rush. Now I use her to just kill the **** out of everything. Currently at level 62.

Luggles the Lugia - flying specialist, taking over for my now-retired Pidgeot. Knows Extrasensory, Hydro Pump, Fly and Aeroblast. Was actually pretty easy to catch at level 45 (I think I only used 4 Ultras and one Fast Ball) and now serves as my flyer with a couple of extra attacks. Currently at level 53.

Rayden the Jolteon - speed demon and all-around superstar. Knows Thunderbolt, Thunder Fang, Double Kick and Thunder Wave. My favorite Eevee evolution and a quick bastard to boot. Using him now for capturing new pokes in Kanto with Thunder Wave. Currently at level 56.

Jed the Torterra - grass and ground specialist. Knows Razor Leaf, Earthquake, Giga Drain and Bite. Three different attack types make Jed the most versatile of my pokes, plus he's pretty much the coolest leaf starter since Bulbasaur. Currently at level 53.

Spoonz the Alakazam - psychic specialist. Knows Psychic, Psybeam, Calm Mind and Shadow Ball. Very versatile piece to my team, takes on most Fighting, Normal and Ghost pokes I encounter. Currently at level 54.

Rawr the Tyranitar - Ground and Rock specialist. Knows Earthquake, Rock Slide, Stone Edge and Crunch. With an Atk stat over 210, Rawr pretty much kills the hell out of everything I throw her at. Currently at level 59.

Currently working through Kanto, got Misty in Cerulean up next. Trying to take my time with the game so I don't get burned out on pokeymans like I did with Platinum. Also trying to figure out if I want to add a Water and a Fighting specialist to my loadout.

My Flaaffy just evolved, and I got to trade and re-trade my Graveler to my bro, so now my line-up looks like this:

Golem, Noctowl, Ampharos, Feraligatr, Gloom, Magmar.

I just crashed Team Rocket's party at Goldenrod, so now it's off to Blackthorn.

Who thinks "Snacks" would have been a better name for Mav's Jolteon? What about "Sleepy" for Snorlax? These names are gold.

I picked up HeartGold the other day, initially as a sympathy gift for my kids. I found out they really wanted to have SoulSilver instead, and I thought the Pokewalker would be a really cool incentive for me to keep working on increasing my activity for weight loss. So, I plugged the game into my DS. I knew my kids really liked the games, and lots of people here do, too, but I didn't quite 'get it' til I played it myself the first time. I was at work and during a long break in the day, I spent the entire time playing Pokemon and having a very good time with it. I have a Cyndaquil named "Sparky". I've also captured a geodude, a pidgey, a caterpie (that one's kind of cute!) and some other thing I renamed 'Wormy'. I don't have the faintest clue what I'm doing in the game, but I'm having fun doing it!

From MST3K's spoof of "Hercules Unchained"--heard as Roman medic soldiers carry off an unconscious Greek Hercules on a 1950's Army green canvas stretcher: "Hi, we're IX-I-I. Did somebody dial IX-I-I?"

Treat it like every other RPG you've played in terms of gameplay and you'll quickly end up knowing everything there is to know about Pokeymanz. Also, if you want more info about your Pokeymanz, there's always sites like Serebii and Bulbapedia.

The Serebii Pokedex is a good place to start if you're willing to look through some information that may look confusing at first: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/

Here's the entry on Cyndaquil: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/155.shtml

Interesting...

You have about the same team I had when I played Silver and pwned school in a tournament.
Original Silver didn't have your 'Jed' though, so I had a Scrizzor there. And Umbreon instead of a Volteon.
Otherwise awesome party. Feels awesome to throw out one epic Pokemon after another huh? I always imagine Lance going slowly insane after losing yet another Dragonite to Aeroblast.

I don't have an DS though...I quitted after GBA. But I still discuss Pokemon with my students once a while. Apparantly most of them don't even know how to catch Lugia because they spill the Masterball early on and don't know how to manage using Ultra's and Fast Balls like you did.

Hmm, I need some advice from some of the pokeveterans around here. My team consists of: 1) Crocanaw 2) Heracross 3) Espeon 4) Nidorino and 5) Pidgeotto, and I'm having trouble deciding on a sixth. I could either add Red Gyarados or Jolteon, I simply love Gyarados and their cool, but Jolteon is also cool and complements my team better. Maybe I should kick out one of my current starters and add both? Oh yeah, and one downside to Jolteon would be me having to spend hours getting a level 1 Eevee to level 30ish + I don't have a thunderstone yet.

Edit: I'm thinking of just cutting out Pidgeotto since I like him the least, probably because he's been part of my starting team in nearly every game.

Your 6th pokemon should pretty much always be an HM slave unless you're talking about a player vs. player team. It is a waste to give most of the HMs to your main team, the few exceptions being Fly and Surf. I've got a level 10 Krabby as my 6th since he can learn 6 out of 8 HMs.

If PvP is battling is the case, I'd suggest you get an electric pokemon. You don't really need a Gyarados since you already have a Crocanaw for water.

I'd also suggest, if you're just building a battle team, you replace your Heracross with something like a Golem or Steelix. Herecross' stats aren't fantastic, and you team is lacking a rock/ground type which come in handy against things like electric types, which your team currently is weak to. Your Nidorino could also probably be replaced by some kind of fire type, but that's just me.

Just my casual opinion though. Lynk and Mav are the ones with character sheets detailing all this since they are the very best, that no-one ever was

Basically just a low level (usually) pokemon that can learn a bunch of HMs or required abilities like flash, rocksmash, cut, fly, etc...

I have an HM slave, but I want to train a 6th guy that I'll sit out everytime I have to go through a hefty cave or something, but bring back in for a gym or non-HM base.

I use Tropius and Golduck for HM slaves, combined they can learn all 8, and even Flash. Which works out great since you prolly wont need to have Golduck know surf since a team member usually knows surf since it's such a great move.

As far as your team goes, I'd recommend something along the following lines:
Croconaw-Waterfall, Ice Punch, Earthquake, Swords Dance (Dragon Dance would be better, but you'd have to breed that on)
Heracross-Megahorn, Close Combat, Stone Edge, Night Slash
Espeon-Calm Mind, Psychic, Shadow Ball, Signal Beam
Nidorino-Honestly I'd get rid of Nidorino, it's move pool is similar to Heracross and he's much weaker
Pidgeotto-Fly, Steel Wing, Quick Attack, Brave Bird

Your team's main weaknesses are the fact that you don't have an electric move, and you have no fire moves to use against Steel types. Also, Croconaw would be your only poke with an Ice move to use against Dragon types. Now it's not something I'd normally recommend, but a Tyranitar can actually cover all of those weakness, it can learn Fire, Ice, and Thunder Fang through the use of Heart Scales. You'd probably be better off getting 2 separate pokemon to cover those weaknesses than make a Tyranitar like that though. Another option would be a Starmie as it can learn Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic and Surf, all powerful moves w/ excellent type coverage, but you'd still need something with Fire.

If you keep Nidorino and evolve it to Nidoking you can teach it Flamethrower, so that's an option. Lastly another good option would be to get a Dratini from the Game Corner for 2100 coins, Dragonite can learn several of the TMs and is just a formidable pokemon in general. Also the moves I'm suggesting can be hard to obtain through TM's, Ice Beam, T-bolt, Flamethrower they are all TMs from the Game Corner and at 10,000 coins a piece, ridiculously expensive, you you'll prolly have to opt for their less accurate but stronger counterparts, like Thunder, Blizzard and Fire Blast.

Thanks for the in depth advice Mav, but I'm really just playing for fun, yet at the same time, can't decide between gyarados and jolteon. I like jolteon but I kinda don't want to spend a lot of time hunting for a thunderstone and then leveling up a recently hatched eevee; yet on the flip side, I also like gyarados, but it's a pain getting the range of natures I want and I already have a water type.
