Red Steel 2?

So I've been seeing commercials for Red Steel 2. Now, I played the original Red Steel, and, in the midst of all the crap, I saw a basis for a good game.

Red Steel 2 looks like, from the videos I've seen, some holy marriage between Western style shooting and Japanese style swordplay.

I checked out various sources, and I think that Ubisoft hit a good mark, receiving an 8.6 from IGN and a 9/10 from GamesRadar, but only got a C+ from 1up.

So, has anyone picked it up and tried it out? What do you think of it?

Don't have a nintendo Wii, but I'll say that from the sound of it so far...*looks up visual illustrations* I'm already adding it to my impossible wanted list.

Now you've made me want *another* game while I'm tryin' to get rid of stuff.

The first Red Steel was a huge disappointment. Ubisoft talked big and failed in every way... I want to get Red Steel 2 (which other than the name has hardly anything to do with the first game)... from what I hear though, it's not much of a First Person Shooter, but it's a pretty good First Person Brawler.

@Lynky, from what Ive heard of this game, your avvie is a perfect illutsration of what this game involves.

I've heard quite a few people complain about the excessive demand on flailing your arms about for prolonged painful periods. Good if youre after a toning workout of I guess.

I don't get why people think you need to flail your arms like an idiot with Wii games. I've never had to with any Wii game other than Wii Sports which was the first time I played the Wii... after that you quickly realise that any motion control doesn't require much movement at all...

I've played Red Steel 2 and there is minimal movement required from what I remember. Mostly just flicks of the wrist or a bit of arm movement for swinging your sword but certainly nothing tiring.

IIRC you're a strapping young basketballer Jeff, so probably have stronger arms than most. I'm just mentioning what I've heard in other reviews and at boards such as IGN. It was the primary gripe of a video review I saw yesterday on a local show as well.

over at this review the conclusion was:

Overall then, a highly recommended game that also doubles as a good workout for your arms.

On the negative side, the long journey will leave your arms feeling tired. Many enemies will require you to slash hard to break their armor, so you'll be swinging with all your might quite often. Just prepare yourself for a little arm fatigue.
I know that there are folks that hate this about SP games on the Wii... just giving them a heads up - that's all

Yeah, I don't get these reviewers... A lot of reviews seem to suggest that games like Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, and even the first Red Steel which had hardly any sword based combat compared to Red Steel 2, had them tired out in the end...

I'm nowhere near as active as Jeff and none of these games were tiring for me. I can understand, however, that there are some people who end up getting overexcited when performing certain moves because they're in the heat of the action and end up tiring themselves out... but other than that *shrugs* I can't understand what's so hard about a few strategic flicks.

Just bought it earlier today, played a few hours of it... I swear don't get any of these reviewers. If they got tired after what is found in Red Steel 2 then I would think they'd get pretty tired typing at a keyboard all day considering it takes about the same physical stress as it does to flick the Wiimote in this game... *shakes head* oi, whatever.

Hopefully I can finish the game in a few days and write up a review since I did review the first game... which was terrible... this game doesn't seem to be anywhere near as terrible so far though.... hopefully I don't run into any really stupid glitches like I did in the last game.

Well I was gonna get #2 if it promised improvement over 'sucky' #1, as a somewhat primary impossible list...but now I think I'm just going to demote this to: if years from now I ever see it for $5 in the bargain bin and have nothing else better to do...get it.

I'll just leave it to the resident expert of consumer reporting for the newer games I'm iffy on.

BTW, not that I'd be too terribly knowledgeable on anything here except the electronic sensors themselves...I'd think a 3-d motion capture chamber with sensor cameras surrounding you everywhere (like they do for CGI) would be more effective at replicating an authentic experience of motion play. On the flipside it'd be much more of a hassle putting on a suit with white plastic balls all over.
It's just, I don't see how anything short of that like what the wii uses would/could really be considered anywhere near as effective, though. But whatever.

Oh yeah... even if none of you get the game, this is still nice to watch...
