Your thoughts on Yankees' Owner George Steinbrenner?

as you may or may not know, New York Yankees' Owner George M. Steinbrenner has died today at the age of 80. He was known as brash, fiery, combative, among other things. he was willing to spend, spend, spend for his beloved Yankees. Among other things, he was famous for firing Manger Billy Martin no less than four time. During his tenure as owner (1973-2010) his Yankees won 11 American League Pennants (made it to WS as AL Representative) and won 7 World Series titles, including four in the 90s alone. He had a passion for winning. In 2002, he started the YES (Yankee Entertainment and Sports) Network, giving him even more money to spend. When asked he said, "as long as I win, even if I have to spend twice what you do, I don't care. I just want to win."

Coming from a diehard Red Sox fan...Rest in Peace, George Steinbrenner. You'll get all the eggplant calzones you want now.

What are your thoughts on the passing of this titan of Baseball?

Haha, I loved the seinfeld reference. I think that's the reason why I liked him...because they made him so crazy on that show.

Without trying to offend anyone, I really do think that it is sad that anyone dies, and I'm saying R.I.P. with full sincerity.

But let's remember that he ruined baseball. He created a league where it became near impossible to win without money to buy players. Basically he bought his championships. Some may argue, "well, if he had it, why not?" and I question the integrity of the person if they truly believe that...

Again, RIP...but also keep in mind that he forever changed the game for the worse.

Yeah, I don't know about anyone else, but I really don't think that this pertains to politics. Then again, considering the amount of gushing wailing and moaning that New Yorkers will broadcast tomorrow it might just make seem like Uncle Ho just passed away.

Yea, I moved it out of Kavar's into Ahto. If the conversation from baseball purist gets too heated it can always be moved back.

RIP Geoge. Never really liked you, but I sure wish you would have been owner of the Houston Astros.

RIP George. As controversial as your contributions were, you brought baseball as a sport and a business to a place it could never have been without all your hard work, regardless of all the different opinions on that.

Haha butt hurt Twins fan much? Everybody imagines Steinbrenner as the cutthroat bastard that does anything to win, but the fact of the matter is that baseball cannot be anything but better because of him; regardless of your personal feelings toward his approach to the game. As far as buying championships, honestly that is just silly. The most relevant example would be the 2003 Florida Marlins that defeated the Yankees to win their title when the Yankees' 3 starting outfielders made more money than the entirety of the Florida Marlins team. Money is only one part of the picture and while paying to field a great team certainly helps, in the end it wont be the determining factor.

Oh I agree. coming from a Red Sox fan, I kinda wish he owned MY team because maybe we'd have Teixeira at first and The Greek God of Walks (AKA Kevin Youkilis) at third...as long as Pedroia the Destroyah is still at second I'd be satisfied...

oh and a new stadium wouldn't be too bad either. Fenway Park is a delapitated, decrepid shadow of its former self.
