MI2:SE steam update

When I logged on to steam, I noticed that it was downloading an update for MI2:SE. I haven't checked ingame what the changes are yet. But someone on the Steam forums said it contained mostly audio files. For the bone song and the hintline on dinky. Could they really have fixed it?

Yeah, the bone song's been fixed. You can now hear the dinky jungle music in full aswell. Still no intro, though.

Basically its a patch fix for all the sound issues, I hope LucasArts didn't just focus on those responses to the sound issues from their Facebook page and hope they still will include the opening intro in another patch.

Intro or no intro, it is a start.

The intro is there now, but only in the classic version (so you have to press F1 right at the start of the game to see it).

The exe has been updated and theres a new wavebank - patch.xwb. It contains new audio cues for the bone song and the dinky helpline.

The resource.pak file hasn't been touched - just the exe and audio.

So no music fix for classic mode?

What was wrong with the helpline?

The intro is there in classic mode but if you switch back to new mode it'll jump forward to scabb in both modes.

Nearly there, they just need to add the intro into the special edition mode and everything should be okay.

Although i hear theres still a music cue timing issue mainly at the Booty Island guardhouse scene with the LeChuck costume.

Good that technical issues are being resolved unlike with the first SE. Still a shame that will seemingly permanently be stuck with some irritating problems.

Ooh, this sounds pretty great! Even if they haven't fixed everything yet, the fact that they did something is really a good sign. I have high hopes for the future of Monkey Island, haha.

Now to go listen to the bone song...

Not that this impacts me, but there's no sign of timing changes on certain puzzles then?

Min jiffies is still very much turned on. Puzzles will still be too quick, Captain Dread will still be too slow.

Did anyone mention the min jiffies thing in their Facebook? Because that's where most fan-based complaints seem to be sourced from. Might be worth throwing that out there in case of a second patch.

I hope they keep this up. There's still a lot of patching to do. I guess people haven't complained enough about the Mardi Gras music since at least that's still a bit broken. I'm not talking about the design choice to muffle the music in Villa de la Booty but about the way the music sometimes just stops at the party itself. That's such a nice scene and this ruins it a bit.

Actually, I didn't have any problems with the wind in the spitting contest, or with Lechuck at the end. It felt like I had plenty of time.

Done. Why don't we stoop down to the level of lameness and just get as many comments on there as possible and see if we manage anything. For...experimental purposes.

What does min jiffies have to do with the timed puzzles going by too quickly?

It's only an assumption. Thinking about it, it's probably wrong.

Also, according to a post at Telltale forums, the puzzle timings are fixed, as well as the credits edited somewhat. So apparently, the resource file must have been touched.

I still hope they will deliver a correct intro sometime in the future. Though it would probably mean having to get a new budget for doing the necessary graphics work which would be probably tough.

The list is in:

- Adjusted timing delays for certain puzzles
- Fixed missing music in Dinky Jungle
- Fixed music synching issue with the Bone Dance sequence
- Fixed various music cross-fading issues
- Added intro and outro credits sequences to the Classic version
- Added acceleration curve to cursor speed
- Increased volume level of “Classic” Chester

Nope. They only need to make a HD Guybrush and HD borders. Which some guy did on Youtube in about 10 minutes.

How I miss the days where you could just download an exe patch. To apply to the game you installed from disks.

Those borders would take a LOT longer than 10 minutes!

Ok, yeah, to clean up and make pretty. The Youtube guy just smoothed and blurred the originals. But really, I think you'd only have to etch outlines into them and it would fit the style nicely.

But still, if LucasArts are unable to make those borders, then it's clear they don't care about the game, because they're unwilling to put work into fixing it.

Remember all the art was outsourced. They probably can't get Korea to do anymore.

The min jiffies were only disabled to allow Guybrush's animation of him hammering the nails into the coffin to be sped up, it has nothing to do with the timing of the puzzles.

Guybrush's lines in the introduction sequence in classic mode are actually spoken aloud. Nice!

And they added crossfading for alternate tracks!! ie- Largo's room, cemetary, moral fibre guys.

They've been in the soundback all along. All the dialogue has been recorded. Even Easy Mode specific stuff.

Wasn't there also a bit where Largo takes LeChuck's beard, where it skips one of the short music cues? I thought I remembered reading that...

Yes. But then someone said it was there and they overlooked it. I think it's just timed incorrectly. But it's been a while since I've played the original in ScummVM.

Surely it would've cost LucasArts a lot less money to supply one of us with pizza and beer for a couple of weeks while overseeing their project. It's clear that the people on these forums have a much deeper knowledge of Monkey Island than anyone currently working at LucasArts.

They're making these games for newcomers to the series. For people who are obsessed with the original version, they can just play it on ScummVM...

It costs a paltry 7 pounds, they re-released an almost 20 year old game, that works on modern computers, that includes unseen concept art, that has been bugfixed after release and that has updated graphics, music and speech.

Its an almost ridiculous embarrassment of riches, a fanboy's dream and more than anyone would have thought possible a few years ago. And yet still we moan. Crazy.

I have no problem with the SE apart from it being visibly rushed. I love it, but the care put in diminishes after Scabb Island (although, really, that's existent in the original anyway).

I'm also pretty obsessive over MIDI and the fact I can't use my own MIDI driver is pretty annoying.

I think the special edition is great, fantastic even. I applaud Lucasarts for their fantastic efforts.

Still, moaning is important. If it's constructive, that is. They probably wouldn't have bothered with a patch if everyone just closed their ears during the Bone Song and just tried to enjoy the out-of-synchness. I'm glad people moan because of these imperfections since they are definitely fixable and there's no reason to just accept these bugs. The fans are the ultimate quality assurance team.

I moan because I care. It's almost a fan's responsibility. Not saying constant moaning and whining isn't annoying, though...

^ this.

If they didn't fix the bone song before release, then they obviously needed a good moaning at.
