install problems for tie fighter

hey guy's...

sorry if this is a question asked a thousand times already....

i just got tie figther collectors cd rom and i've read all the threads i can find to search for the problem i'm having but can't find anything...

the game simply won't install...i've changed compatabilty modes, tried it in safe mode (worked for x wing alliance) i've dowloaded numerous patches and tried everything i know, but i still get "illegal obstruction" prompt when i insert the cd

again, i'm sorry if this is a "noob" question but can somebody please help me!!
