Because spiders can be scary, and the developers want the game to be scary at certain points? And what about those who suffer from dracophobia?

And those that suffer from botanophobia, chionophobia, hoplophobia, achluophobia, photophobia, acrophobia, agoraphobia or claustrophobia? Let's not forget them.

By all means, make fun of us. The point still remains, it ruins games and in some cases prevent people from finishing them without mods.
(I had to use a mod that god rid of the Spider Daedra in TES4:Oblivion to be able to play that game.)

I'm right there with you. I can only pray that Visceral doesn't add a spider necromorph to Dead Space 3... I hope they didn't read that.

I wonder why there haven't been spider necromorphs in Dead Space yet. Having to shoot down eight limbs to kill an enemy sounds like something obvious enough to have made it to the first game.

It wasn't so much to make fun of you but more to point out that pretty much everyone is afraid of something (there isn't a cool Latin name for a fear of coconuts, but I have a touch of that. Also rabbits - leporiphobia. I was scarred as a child by a combination of the killer rabbit of Caerbannog in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Watership Down.). Sure you could remove giant spiders, but where do you stop? If you cleansed every possible phobia-inducing element out of games, you wouldn't be left with much beyond an empty white room (which some people would still be afraid of).

There was one or two in the book.
On topic: Obviously I'm looking forward to Skyrim. I'm debating whether I should wait for a GOTY edition (if at all possible) or not. I'm also struggling should I get it on PC and have to spend hundreds of dollars so it can run with minimal lag, or 360 and be cursed with a limited controller.

Pretty extensive. Previous games have gone through just about every convention possible. Models, MoCap, texturing, world building.. you name it, there's probably a mod for it (previous ES titles).
Probably have one of the largest modding communities I've ever known. They have confirmed that Skyrim (pc) will be released with the tool kit (as all the other games have).

There may be some differences in moddability given the engine changes, although presumably their internal tools at least would maintain pretty much the same functionality (if not improve).

That being said, plenty of fans seem to have delusions about what they can and can't mod. For example:
1. You can't mod classes back in. (Not sure why they'd want to)
2. You probably can't put attributes back in (And really, it would just get messy).
3. You can't add more armour slots.
4. You can't add more skills (probably even harder with the new setup).
Also, I'm hoping they eliminate the need for a third-party script extender.

I'm still on the fence about this. On one hand Bethesda can't tell a decent story for ****, but on the other my inner child sure does love the killin' dragons part! Call me a sucker for spectacle. :P

I know the mud crab armor DLC is a joke, but the actual mud crab screenshot confuses me. I could've sworn that it was confirmed mud crabs won't be appearing.

I'd say armor/weapon/item only DLCs are even more worthless on TES/Fallout games by Bethesda than they are in Bioware games. At least on the former you can mod such items in with relative ease, which is otherwise impossible or very limited on the Edmonton studio's games of late. Bethesda's DLCs must therefore contain an expanded storyline, much like F3's.

New review from PCGamer. Probably one of the best ones I've read as the reviewer went his own way rather than follow the story. No spoilers, just a "telling" of his character's events.
Seems lockpicking is more like FO3 (thanks goodness) and riding/steering your horse is as easy as guiding your own character (same controls).
Definitely worth the read.

Huh, who would have thunk it? Seems they actually learned something from Obsidian and implemented a proper character skill-based system instead of stupid mini-game.

Meh, they just stole that from FO1/2 which was Interplay/Black Isle, so much of a muchness. The point is, the less stupid consoletard mini-games and the more actual RPGishness, the better.

haha.. true enough! Just picking on ya.. hehe
It would be hard pressed to find an original idea nowadays. Even Dead Island (which I'm enjoying surprisingly enough) stole Mass Effect's weapon wheel, aka NWN's action wheel, aka .. etc etc.
The game is sounding like ten tons of joy so far. Don't think I've ever been this excited for a game in a long time.

Really good read ChAiNz… Thank you for sharing it. Mud craps notwithstanding, I haven’t seen anything about Skyrim that doesn’t have me excited. I’m thinking I have found the majority of my distractions between November 11th and March 6th with Skyrim.
I even turned down going to Columbia MO November 12 for the Longhorn vs Tigers game.

Doesn't worry me in the least. I'm sure I could finish many of the games I play quickly if I didn't not want to explorer and find all the good stuff.

Oblivion (main quest) could be beaten in under 2 hours too (legitimately). I used to do it all the time just to avoid a super-hard "keep martin alive" endfight.. hehe
You're only fighting scamps, elementals, and maybe a clanfear at that low level.
Glitched, can be beaten in under 5 minutes
Agree with mimartin doesn't worry me any... I'm so much of loose cannon in sandbox, I'll probably forget what the main quest was after 15 minutes. I get sidetracked way too easily in "grand-scape" sandbox games.

IIRC that's about twice as long as the winner for the Oblivion speed run. And also this result is achieved but cutting every possible corner.

"Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion swallowed months of our lives and its sequel, Skyrim is expected to be even bigger. But it can be finished in two hours if you know how.
Unsurprisingly, Bethesda staff know how. The studio held one of its apparently traditional speed run contests in which QA man Sam Bernstein took on level designer Jeff Brown in a sprint to the endgame in the epic RPG.
It was a close call. Brown managed it in a stonking 2:16:30. But Sam Bernstein breezed past the end game in 2:16:10. That's a difference of just 20 seconds - an almost Top Gear-style unbelievable result. As you can see, he was pretty pleased with his victory."

I'm pretty sure back in the day Bioware devs did Baldur's Gate 2 speed runs of a couple of hours as well, and that has a hell of a lot more content than any modern RPG. It's not really hard if you know how.

You can finish the main quest in Morrowind in 30 minutes, so I don't think how quickly a speedrunner can reach the end says much about the actual mass of content in a game. Or how long it would take for the average gamer to get there.
