I'm at work tonight. Looks like I'll be leaving here in order to drive home in the worst of it. But as of now, it's pretty much just globs of shush plopping down from above.

Not pretty.

I'd like to get Skyrim, it looks amazing... but I know I don't have the kind of time that game will take. I barely made a scratch in Oblivion.

The new Ace Combat looks cool too... but I'll wait for that one to drop in price. No rush on that one.

Played a little Rage last night. Game looks absolutely amazing. Shooting stuff seems pretty cool too. Also, John Goodman is in it.

Hmm... no. But they can't all be totally epic.

I'm home sick today. I feel like crap.

Probably brought on by all the various stresses I've been under lately: Work stress... Relationship drama... Parental drama... money worries... All combining into a huge ball of suck.

I just want it to all go away... but unfortunately, I have to confront and try to fix it all.

When did life get so miserably complicated???

Probably the very day your parents first realized you could understand what they were saying and they started telling you to do stuff. Face it, when you don't know anything and all you do is eat and sleep and play and have other people take care of you, that's the prime of your life. Everything after that is horribly complicated.

Most of this week was lost to me in a haze of sickness and blah. Now I'm working all weekend, still not feeling great.

Did manage to play a bit of Forza 4 and Gears 3 the other day while I was home sick. Other than that, there are no highlights to this entire week to report.

Well, for me besides the usual drudgery, was able to curl for the first time this season at the La Crosse Curling club. it uses Arena Ice, so it is rather different.

I was able to figure out the ice a little quicker then my opponent and he made a mistake which caused him to miss a take out and allow me to score 3 to start. Ended up winning 6-3 after 6 ends. We had about 24 people show up for leauge curling. 90% of them had not curled before last year.

One of my comments after the game was "You having anything stronger then Cocoa?" Thankfully i bought a bottle of scotch, and had some at home afterwards.

Watching the Occupy Movement. Another Iraqi War Vet is now hospitalized in Oakland.

So now I sit, wondering when will it be enough to provoke an all out "war".

Skyrim comes out this week.

Which means I will be on the receiving end of "CAN'T TALK, GAME IS HERE" from my girlfriend.

I'm strangely ok with that.

Well, the reason I'm ok with this is because she also realizes two things:

1) I'm a giant Blizzard and Star Wars fanboy.

2) The Old Republic comes out in a month, followed a few months later by Diablo III.

So.... being a gamer herself, she understands. It's wierd.

Again, I refuse to take this as bad.

The key to a successful relationship seems to be to spend as little time with one another as possible.

I am going to hold out for Diablo 3. As it is, I am hard pressed to spend much time on a game these days, with a wife, a house and a job (not to mention a really whiny cat)

Just got back from checking my mom in at the emergency room for pretty bad chest pains.

I'm hoping for the best... but I really won't know more until morning.

After hooking her up to an EKG nobody at the hospital seemed to be in a panic while I was there, and her pains actually went away before I left to come home, but they wanted to check her in for observation overnight.

I'm hoping it's just a scare... nothing serious. But I'm also hoping it could also be the thing that gets my mom and girlfriend to actually talk to one another again, or even just agree to perhaps be in the same room together... something that hasn't happened since before Halloween.

It's been a rough couple of weeks. And I'm sure the sickness I'm still fighting stems from the all the stress I've been swallowing...

@Ed best wishes

I know where your at, losing my mom earlier this year. And the Slow process of dying that my wife's mom is going through.

At the moment my mother-in-law cannot even talk anymore.

I cannot explain the feeling of loss when your mother cannot tell you that she loves you anymore.

Thanks, all!

She'll be in the hospital for a few more days. They are thinking it was a mild heart attack after all.

But she got treatment early, and it was about a mild as one as you can have, so they expect her to fully recover... but it's a hell of a scare and a wake-up call to get. She is in good spirits though... and she gave my GF a big hug when we walked in her room this afternoon... so I think all, if not forgiven and forgotten, is pushed far into the background now, under these circumstances.

and... for a bit of sad news

My mother in law passed away today. She had been battling a brain tumor for 3 years. Not unexpected, but, we didn't get much warning that she was about to go. My wife is now in MKE helping out her dad take care of things.

Sorry to hear it, K_K.

Mom came home today. They moved her to Tufts yesterday morning, performed an angioplasty on the bad artery, removed the blockage, and put in a stint... all from snaking a line up through her leg. Pretty amazing!

She feels good, if a bit weak.

I'm COMPLETELY exhausted. So is my girlfriend. 4 days of worry and waiting will do that to ya, I guess.

Still playing some Rage. Not a bad game. Very excellent visuals and performance. Very compelling world. Fun gun play and surprisingly good arcade driving. Some things feel like they could be tightened up, though. All the weapons except for the shotgun seem pretty useless. I guess the sniper rifle is useful sometimes. But the machine guns are all crap. Also, and this REALLY ticks me off, it's a (sort of) open word game, with collectibles, but...areas get closed off without warning and you can miss a lot of the collectibles. Game designers, come on guys, seriously... You know what's great about Zelda games? It's a (sort of) open world to explore, but you can relax and enjoy it, because if you miss something, you can always go back later and get it. If you're going to have a world to explore and things to collect, this is the FIRST requirement.

I am playing Fallout 3 right now. ONce i figured out how to get it to work on my computer. I had to edit the *.ini file.

Fun game. Great game engine. Favorite momment so far is when a Raider came after me, I readied my hunting rifle, and then somehow I sighted in on the frag grenade, decided to beat feet instead and lined up for a headhsot. Scored a critical, and Had a "Bullet cam" shot that ended up with the raiders head rolling on the ground without it's body

best line so far "I am sorry I played with your DNA like how a kitten plays with a ball of string"

Got to sit through like three hours of training about how not to sexually harass people at work today. A waste of the entire company's time, and they already told us we couldn't bring in any electronic gizmos to play with during the training

Dealing with a horrible, horrible show tonight. Had the run through last night, and it was a disaster wrapped in a trainwreck. I coined the phrase: "Clusterf***tastrophies" to describe exactly this type of event... but even that fails to do it justice.

*Sigh*

I also learned yesterday that I'm almost out of banked paid-time-off... so I have to choose all my upcoming days off carefully until I build up my account again. That means no more days off in the middle of the week... even if I'm working 16 hours a day all weekend. I still have to clock at least 7 hours a day Monday thru Friday anyways. Bummer.

Mom's doing well... but I just learned that dad is being sued for pretty much EVERYTHING by the guy who crashed into him last summer. The guy is saying (through his lawyer, of course...) that because of the accident he can't work, or walk, or talk... even though there was hardly any damage to his car at the time of the crash, and he hopped right out of his car and came over and started yelling at my dad, who was pinned in his car and couldn't move and had several cracked ribs.

It's always something...

I can't believe you aren't given days off in the middle of the week when you have to work weekends. I guess you get overtime or whatever, but still, there's only so much a man can work before the tank is empty.

Yeah... but quite a bit (though not all...) of the weekend work is optional: outside bands renting the venue, with me working for extra money, and not for the college... so those hours don't count towards salary fulfillment.

Still: it takes it's toll.

I can always give up those shifts to somebody else who wants to bust their ass for extra dough... but the extra money shifts make up about half of my income for the year. Since I've been there longest (except my boss...) I pretty much get first crack at most of the big money shifts.

I had to give up 3 such shifts last weekend to be around for my mom. It cost me almost $1,500 (above and beyond my weekly salary) to do so.

But if I keep taking days off now, my salary will start getting docked... undoing the benefits of the extra money.

I'm sure I could get by on straight salary... but things would be tighter... and spending money wouldn't exist.

Plus a work diet of only student and faculty concerts would wear on my soul in a very short time. Even though it's a PITA sometimes, working with touring bands and real professionals in the business is a respite and helps keep me sane.

Sort of...
