Probably because most North Americans don't understand the difference between being English, Scottish, Irish, or just generally British; so when they fill out a census, which I assume the above data is from, the numbers come up all cluster****ed. Since the English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh are all British, then those who identify themselves as some kind of British do indeed outnumber any single ethnicity.
All that stuff aside, though, happy Fourth to all the Americans of LF. Even the non-British ones.
Happy 4th to all including those lucky Brits that got rid of their ignorant cousins in the colonies, please take them back. You really should be the ones celebrating.
Hope all of my American friends are having a good day! Same to those who are not my American friends, but still Americans. Just slightly less so. I suppose.

Well, that's fair, but as your pic groups Americans and Germans as two giant blocs, it seems biased. I'm sure an Austrian would say he's not German and an Iroquois would say she isn't a Cherokee.

I'd say it'd be extremely likely that many, at least, would be from eastern Northern Ireland. Not many will pick Irish, Scotch-Irish means...little...and there is not a Northern Irish option.
