Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D
So, as we all know for some time now, TPM is going back to theaters on February, 2012. All we have for now is the poster:
The trailer will be released on October 21st with the movie The Three Musketeers.
I really dislike the absence of Qui-Gon Jinn, the main (and my favourite) character of the movie. Other than that, I quite like it and it's great to see my favourite prequel back in the theaters.

They should have expanded on the Jar-Jar back-story.

I am curious as to how the will play out. TPM always held a special place in my heart for the fact that it had so many amazing characters. Infact, it'd be my favorite prequel if not for Jar-Jar Binks. But yeah, 3D. I suppose now I will be tempted /not/ to fall asleep during the podraces!

Seeing it tomorrow unless weather (where I am there's snow all day scheduled) stops me. If it does, well, I've just bought Empire at War and I don't have anything to do for the following week.

Just saw it. The 3D was good but inconsistent.

Was there added depth perception? Or a bunch of pop-out moments? If it's nothing more than laser bolts flying out of the screen I won't be seeing it.

It's not. If you watch the video above, you will see that their conversion plan was all about depth, not "in your face" 3D. As George says, "I don't like things coming out at the audience. I like everything to be behind the proscenium."
And I must say, it worked rather well.

Just saw it. That summation is pretty much right, though I think it would be better with some thigns actually coming out (e.g. imagine Naboo Starfighters flying toward you).

I absolutely DETEST the fact that George Lucas killed off Qui-Gon
I wish they had used him in SOME form or fashion in Episode II.
I just saw this movie in theaters in 3D and it was like the first time seeing this film all over again <3

So was there many changes made to the film besides the CGI Yoda and obvious 3Dness?

Same version has the Blu-ray dvd version released in September, 2011. The only difference was the 3-D.

It's the Blu-ray version. CGI Yoda, 8% more picture, and exclusive to the release: the 3Dness.

I had precisely ZERO interest in seeing this, as I already own the DVD (used) since way back in 2001 (telling myself "for the collection" as at the time it was the first official SW DVD available), and that's been enough for me. I still consider it the weakest of the Star Wars films (though "Clone Wars" is technically worse, you know what I mean), even if I enjoyed the final lightsaber battle (when it wasn't being interrupted by the other, less interesting battle scenes). The new (1999) puppet looked off, but at least back then I could laugh at how "stoned" he looked, but now with the CGI revamp, even that saving grace is gone from this movie.
I'm planning on skipping Episode II and III 3D in theaters as well. I would say "wake me up when they have the OT back in theaters" but if it's going to be the Blu-Ray cuts of those films, I may not even bother with those. If my local movie house was showing the original cuts of the OT (forget 3D, even), I'd be there in a heartbeat, mind you. As a fan about the only reason I could hope for the success of these 3D releases is so that we eventually get around to the OT, but considering it won't be the versions I fell in love with as a Star Wars fan growing up, it's not really something I'm too invested in overall.
I could go on and on about how little I care about these revamped releases, but I'm sure anyone reading this gets my point by now.
Don't get me wrong, the 3D movie fad is fun, but I've never had the experience of it turning a mediocre film into a good one. It's a marginal "improvement" at best, and there I'm talking about films where it was made with the 3D feature in mind, not tacked on over a decade later. If the Ranch stays true to form, we'll have a "3D" blu-ray release of these movies by 2018, and Lucas will probably get around to making even more tweaks and changes (and goof up half of them making the films slightly worse in the process).
If you liked Episode I, and want to see it again on the big screen, I'm happy you get a chance, but count me out this time.

They already announce each star wars film would be released in 3-D at the movie theaters. They said it would be released in order from I-VI with one movie released each year. They haven't released a month or day for episode II in 3-D. They have said it will be in 2013. I will be there to watch all 6 films in 3-D. I watched episode I once in 3-D. I plan to watch the other ones more than once since there is little chance of my family saving enough money for a 3-D TV and 3-D blu-ray dvd player. I do have the 2004 original trilogy version on DVD plus the set that had the original version that came out in 2006. I have the complete star wars blu-ray collection. Star Wars on the big screen is totally different than watching at home. I will watch it everytime they show it on theater. At least there are finally moving the Star Wars Where Science meets Imagination exhibit to Indianapolis. It only takes a hour to get to the Indiana State Musuem.
Would be nice if they released a Star Wars Battlefront 3 for PS3 in 2013 and had Star Wars Celebration VII at Indy for 2013? That would be a great year for star wars for me!

Don't worry... the 3D effect on current TV's sucks compared to the 3D effect seen in theaters, judging by what I've seen, and there's no way I can afford a 3D TV.
