Thumbs up post your desk top

Your real one, I mean. At work or home. Whatever.

My interweb work is done from home via a laptop sitting on the couch. I occasionally use the kitchen table.

My painting is done from an old table stuffed in our bedroom....unless the studio/workshop/summerhouse/large shed is finished.

2 5:4 monitors, my belovèd IBM Model M keyboard (from 1986, with real mechanical keys using buckling springs), some generic Logitech mouse, some speakers, a stack of CD-R spindles I often use to prop another speaker satelite up (but I frequently move them near my bed when I'm watching a movie), writeable desk pad, a glass, a mug with tea, assorted pens and pencils, some tissues and peppermints.

Not pictures: a CRT to the right holding a stack of notes, also a commode with a whole pot of tea on a tea candle.

Gnomes

On my desk one can see tissues (allergies,) an old map of London, a little drawer for watches, rings and whatnot with superglue, a statue of Vishnu subduing a primordial multi-headed snake (which I've always taken for an interesting way of describing the collapsing of quantum possibilities into one cohesive timeline) and the remote control to my fan, a small clock, a rotating blue dolphin lamp, petrified wood, my silver zen ring, a lighter in a leather case, two collapsible bump speakers attached to my old Sony Walkman (offscreen) which I use to listen to radio because it eludes the buzz my wi-fi puts out, vitamins and coffee. There is also a 1/700 scale model U-boat hanging from the top, and in the darkness to the right, one can just make out the labels on the drawers I use to organize the little parts I use in my model-building projects.

The computer I'm using these days is an I-pad, not pictured here.

Cool Guy Carlos

Okay, you got me. The tissue is a fire accelerant.

Map of London, lighter, portable radio. You figure out the rest.

McCoys desktop isn't as technical as I'd imagined it would be. This leaves me feeling sad.

Unhappy No disco lights

I, too, was expecting to see a laboratory of some sort. Lots of brushed steel and tastefully efficient lighting. Perhaps an oscilloscope.

Artisa's desk top was no surprise.

Not technical? What did you expect, I'm mainly a software engineer.

Sure, I would like a big desk with an expensive soldering station and place to leave breadboards and stuff about. But I have neither the place nor the money right now; I'm doing my occasional soldering on the table in the living room.

I wish. An oscilloscope (as well as a proper logic analyzer, i.e. not a 10€ chinese knockoff of a small USB dongle) is still on my wish list. No money for it at the moment.

Now you're talking, can't beat freshly baked crusty bread. Not sure why you'd think that was technical mind, but hell, I'm all for it.

Exclamation Work area

*(Goes uncharacteristically back on topic.)*

Here's my desk top while I'm in the process of working on a scratch-built model. Arista...is not necessarily the messiest of us.

And, here's the model in sections. Primer coat on; ready for painting and final assembly.

Finished. Behold the waste and sanitation ship I built for my Battlestar Galactica fleet:

Here is the forward view, showing the flight deck and connection ports by which it takes on its noxious load.

Am I still on topic? Who cares?

This is the forward half of the ship, consisting mainly of the septic tank. Curious note: the model kit I bashed to provide the septic tank was of the Chinese spaceship they launched a few years ago. F*ck you, China.

Finally, here is the aft section, containing crew quarters and the less-noxious waste storage facilities.

Overall, this is a long ship containing a waste processing plant forward and garbage stowage in the aft. The ship (which bears only the ID number 20) flies out to a space station or other large space craft and docks in the utility section, offloads the sewage--returning the clean and processed water--which it stores in the Chinese septic tank, and storing the more ordinary garbage in the bulky-looking cargo area. It then carries off the waste, never to be seen again.

Yes, I built a garbage scow. Deal with it.

Mine is still messier!

Impressive though - how does one build a model? Are all the pieces already included in the kit or is the kit for making the individual pieces out of some material or another?
