Ugh, Family Guy... Stupid pop culture references disguised as humor. Seth MacFarlane is a waste of skin.

I take it you're not a fan of the Simpsons either.

Sadly the same can be said for most gaming series.

Well, Star Trek, Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica were all better 20 years ago.

Wait. What am I saying? That isn't true at all...

Star Trek was better 20 years ago. Star Wars was always ****; ditto with BSG.

Ah the classic conundrum of Star Wars vs Star Trek!

I've never actually seen any of the Star Wars but I often spited (spote?) it on the sole basis of LucasArts favouring the release of Star Wars games over the Monkey Island games. :P

Can't even remember what little I saw of Star Trek as a kid though. Liked the reboot though.

Are you mad? The new Star Trek kicks the old Star Trek's butt right into a black hole...just like the one they used to destroy Vulcan in the first movie. Schwooooommmp--! All gone. No Vulcan. Stick that in your time line...

It's also worth noting that the new Kirk seems to be Beastie Boys fan.

JJ Abram is a hack, the Star Trek reboot is ****; it removes everything that made Star Trek SF and moved it straight into mindless action crap. Into Whiteness showed painfully that no one on the team had any clue at all.

I'm no Star-anything fan but didn't they reboot it in a way that integrated the old story as an alternate dimension timeline or something? Thereby acknowledging that it did happen and satisfying old school fans across the globe?

I call that "bull****ting".

Hey, season 9 of Dallas was just a dream! Doesn't negate anything, because it still could have happened, right? Right?!?

Bah.

Timeline, yo...

We should address the particular attributes of the new Star Trek in order to reach an objective forum opinion on the matter, rather than resorting to vague generalizations. If a thing is sh*t, then it must have sh*t qualities in particular that help us identify us as such.

*(Fish on.)*

JJ Abrams is merely a director, but it is his reinterpretation of the entire pacing of the Star Trek form of storytelling that has led to the success of his new franchise. He specifically brings the influence of the Star Wars movies into his directing. Fast-paced adventure draws in the audience, as George Lucas demonstrated with his ground (and space) breaking movies.

The placement of Ambassador Spock's trip in the timeline is what makes the whole thing acceptable to us hard core Trekkies. The past becomes the future, and all teevee series and movies can happily co-exist. And they can make many more, with an untold future laid out before us...

Say, with the reference to 'Admiral Archer's pet beagle' in the first movie, perhaps they could bring Scott Bakula in for a cameo. That would be super.

There's no storytelling in JJs Star Trek anymore. It's mindless action. It's a Die Hard.

Star Wars is also low on plot and high on bull****. This is not a good thing.

George Lucas is an imbecile. You can see that very clearly when he's giving free reign over his projects: You get Jar Jar Binks. You get Darth Icky.

They are actual Science Fiction. They examine the human condition, societies and our place in them. How society, politics, science and technology influence and form us and our ideals and morality.

In contrast, JJ Abrams created an action flick that provides momentary diversion. He is the 50 pack of instant ramen to Star Trek's 5-course menu.

McCoy hiding in the bushes? Now that freaks me out. He could have a tricorder, or a hypo spray or something...

By the way, has anyone googled the 'current game' I have listed in my details? If you see me hiding in the bushes--run!

I watched a bit of The Phantom Menace today. For every terrible line uttered, every appearance of Jar Jar Binks, even every time a piece of acting so wooden that Pinocchio would be ashamed slipped through onto the screen, I thought about Darth Icky.

Thumbs up Star warrior

I liked the laser sword fights and all the space...things. I also liked the shiny stuff, and, like, that alien was just tubular. You know, the space dude.

The star wars 'prequels' don't exist, neither do any further new ones.

There are simply the originally three I remember as a child.

Didn't the director intentionally start with the fourth movie in the series or something?

Aye, but prequels are never ever good. It's like having dessert first, then having the main course afterwards. In this instance the dessert was exquisite, the main course was like dog poo on a plate.

70's/80's Star Wars movies

Hmm, kinda makes me wonder how fellow MI fans would've reacted if they ever made an MI movie, what with the storyboard being what it was - fisherman Guybrush on LeChuck's crew against the Navy's commander Elaine.

I probably couldn't get into a Monkey Island movie. I love the first two games dearly, the third I don't mind....the others, I'm just not that into. I can't imagine the movie being in VGA, so it's not for me lol.
