I am under a lot of pressure due to university exams right now - when this popped up in my newsfeed, all that weight was briefly lifted. I am so, SO happy to see this being made - let's just hope we'll get it on PC as well. Now excuse me while I lean back, close my eyes and listen to some "Mr. Frustration man"

Oh my God, I never thought I'd live to see this day. I just might have to invest in a PS4 or Vita just because of this. Holy damn.

@Sallim

That's a relief! If I'm going to buy a new console, I'd rather it be a Wii U.

Other than the awesome GF news, it's great to see that so many old faces showed up in this thread right away. I guess one's love of Grim Fandango never dies.

We're going to have actual new fans here soon that bought it from a store and everything. Maybe this'll get the stop-mo opening project going again, too.

When I saw the news I had to check the calendar. I thought it was June, but it felt more like April Fool's Day.

I suppose whether or not it comes to PC (or Mac, too) will depend on how well it does on the initial platforms. Grim Fandango has always been rated critically very highly, although that didn't translate into high sales when first released. I guess we'll see if 16 years of hype leads to better results this time around. (And if they manage to get all those damned elevator doors working properly.)

2 Player Productions has a interesting short look at the game and it's upcoming rerelease:

I think the most interesting thing is Tim saying the team didn't get along so well towards the end.

What I would really like to see is some merchandise to go along with the release, hopefully something like a statue of Manny.

Wouldn't be surprised to see some swag from Doublefine. They always do a great job with that sort of stuff.

Yes I got the statue they did of Eddie Riggs for brutal legend which is epic so hopefully we will see something/anything for grim fandango

I've already got a statue of Manny. Well, the little bendy thing that doesn't look even remotely like Manny. But, still.

And Tim seemed to be saying that they were going to be making use of Residual. That would be cool since the open source license requires that any bug fixes and improvements they make have to be shared with the project. Which won't make Residual into a stealth remastering of GF for PC/Mac, but it should make Residual's GF support much better much more quickly.

Now I understand why Tim seemed so obsessed with picking out Residual bugs when he was playing GF for the cameras recently.

I found this little home made thingamajig at the local equivalent of craigslist for 5 euros about a week ago - just before the announcement. Funny how these things happen. I do hope for some extra merchandise though. I'd love a model of the bone wagon with Manny and Glottis

Gotta add a tie to that some day...

Unless that's supposed to be the sailor suit. Hard to say. Looks more like pajamas than a suit. I guess that would be OK. He's dead, after all.

I was also very excited when I heard this, in fact I can't remember anything else that came out of E3 after hearing about the remake.

The PS4/Vita exclusivity doesn't bother me, it will come to PC eventually. I'd rather have Grim exclusive to PS4 for a while than it being left buried in Disney's basement forever.
In fact, I believe that it was probably only by using the leverage of Sony that Tim Schafer and DF managed to convince them to licence Grim at all.

Now I eagerly await the release date and the merchandise (where the real money is made)

Only just heard about this now, I've almost got tears in my eyes hah.

I wonder if it's going to be just a HD release, or if remaster means something more to it. Imagining a 3D rendered world gets me very excited Shame that we will have to wait for PC release, but GTA V has gotten me used to that feeling by now haha.

Based on Schafer's tweets, it will be "just" an HD release, with at least two control different schemes, and compatible with modern systems.

Since not everyone is a Broken Age backer (why the hell not??) or follows DF on twitter, there is this to share from the latest backer update:
Double Fine is pleased to announce that, along with the console exclusive PlayStation 4 and Vita versions of Grim Fandango, Manny will also reap once again on PC, Mac, and Linux!

And thatís not all, folks! All versions will be launching simultaneously, so everyone can play on day one and not have to worry about those spoilers youíve been successfully avoiding for the past fifteen years. (Pro-tip: stay off Twitter.)
So there.

It was bound to be released on PC so that's not a surprise, but it's great that it will be released simultaneously!

I hope they release some more details on the remake soon, screenshots, release date, etc.

Well, I'm glad I read the news about the PC-version before I saw there would be a remake. Saved a lot of nervous breakdowns to be a bit slow this time.

Anyway, one of the best and most important news in over ten years!
