Lightbulb Recorded Games

A great feature for Jedi Outcast would be to have the option of Recorded Games for multiplayer.. Now from what I hear, Quake III Arena has these, but not some of the features I think Outcast should have.. Most recorded games are a replay of basically what you did, you see what you see, and basically it is a replay.
Outcast should have the option of free floating camera similar to Half Life's In Game Free-Look mode... You could watch saber duels from a dramatic view, and mabye even go into fast foward, or slow motion.... People could release their recorded games online so many people could watch the duels of others... If someone missed a great tournament for 50,000 dollars with Sabers only, you could just download the recorded game...

in quake 3, an observing player in spectator mode, can record a battle from a free floating camera.
But I agree the user should have control, but this would probably increase the size of each demo.

also by using thirdperson commands, you can get decent effects of a player in a recording..

ya, i would like recording like in XWA where you can watch from any charcter, or any point, just drop camera, thought this is prob WAYYY to bulky to impliment for something like a fps! i would be happy with anything that i could watch...

Yes, the Quake 3 engine has its perks. Bring on the recordings. Someone developed a way to make recordings in JK but that was only within the last few months and I have yet to try that out. Money says Q3 recording will still have it beat.

i would have loved that feature in jk.

no doubt we will have a spectator option and movie recording in jk2.

hey, if they worked out how to record demos in jk, this will be a piece of cake

In tribes ( we used demos to show ctf matches and duels, as well as cap routes. I hope to do the same with JKO, maybe this website will harbor demos for us to download.

jk demos was something st00pid tho wasnt it?
like screen caps, or video tape.

just really need to read the inputs and outpus of the game through the modem.. you can then reconstruct the game, by forcing them into a game..
well thats how the TA demo recorder worked which had similar netcode.
you watched from the position of another player, who had 0 influence on the game, but had cheats to see everything.. it was an rts, but imho it could be done for jk to..

but JK2 will almost definitly have the great feature of demos.. but plz plz plz raven if you are listening.. make a nice feature, which is a 1 press record which names the demo after the players in the game, and the map.. or has auto record, to record all the games, and then gives us the option to name the game afterwards..

If they don't include a replay option, maybe they will make a fighting game type ending to matches, where they show the last 4-5 seconds of the match in slow motion. That would be satisfying.

Its a good idea having a recording of your game - In Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 it would auto record and after the round finished you could choose to watch it.

Of course if you don't get it in jk2 there's always a patch to look forward to!

With the latest Q3 point release you can record a demo and upon playback watch different POV's, so not just from teh POV that it was recorded. So far the limitations are for your team only in team matches ie TDM and CTF but for duels you can watch your POV and your opponents.

Also Q3 has a fast forward of its own.
In the console you can use /timescale x where x is a number from 0.1 and up. Of course the higher the number the faster it fast forwards.

Also through demos many people learned new moves in Q3. For example Fatality back at babbages showed a few tricks that people never knew of on T2 which are now common yes demoes will pass on skills and demonstrate teh good battles.

I wish JK had demos...tehre would be plenty of CWT demos worth seeing.

I learned a lot of tricks in Quake and Quake II from watching Thresh demos.

I definitely think that demo recording should be a feature of Jedi Knight II, and with a Quake III-based engine, I'm sure it will be. That's good news about the latest Q3 point-release tweaks. Hopefully those options will be incorporated into the JK II demo system.
