Horizontal Weapon Jumping
Please O Captains of Captains, please please, in some way, however small, acknowledge that u've read the following post. It concerns a lil known technique in JK that is absent from nearly all games.
The technique being:
The concussion jump. It's a difficult thing to pull off in JK, lots of folks have never been able to manage it in a game. However its one of the most unique and wonderful aspects of JK.
The jump is unlike other weapons jumps in all other games in that its entirely *horizontal*. U fly sideways and not up. The best jump that u can achieve in JK is one that subtracts a tiny tiny 15 shields and launches u the distance of one Full Force strafe jump using Speed. [some will say this isn't possible, but it is, just incredibly difficult, very easy to take off up to 75 shields instead]
I just want to know that you at Raven know of this amazing Conc Jump, as it is so dear to me and friends of mine. Its off the beaten path in many ways, and I'm afraid that U may have overlooked it in your JK exploits.
I'm sure my fears are unfounded, but none the less, let them subside considerably with a simple reply, a brief and yet so sweet knod of the head in my direction.
As undeserving as I am, Please tell me that some, even just one of u, has seen or experienced the phenomenal, extraordinary, fanfookintastik; .....Conc Jump.
Make my day Raven. And yes, I am a Punk, and I do feel Lucky =P

Lucky,
what makes you so sure the conc rifle is in the game?
Raven will prolly leave it out and make something new, and even if they dont they will make it function entirely differently.

While I always found the Conc Jump fun and impressed by those who used it advantagously, I would prefer an all new array of stratagies. That way people have come up with new tactics instead of using their old ones.
Genius is limited, unfortunately stupidity is not thus so.

I hope they drop the conc. and bring in some new weapons. How boring it would be if it was the same old game...

I agree with slowbie, drop the conc. Not only was it overused, but it didnt help balance jk either, it did anything but balance. Also i wouldnt want the same old strategies used over from jk to jk2, the game should be very very diffrent to its counterpart, forcing people to come up with new strategies. I'd also like to see strategies used for blasters instead of just heavy weapons , like strategies for stormtrooper riffles, and other blasters. ( maybe strategies as aiming for vital areas of the body?, take advantage of the ghoul system)

This post is entirely about horizontal weapon jumping, I just want to know that someone at Raven is aware that this was an aspect of JK.
Not asking that they include it, not asking that they bring the conc back, simply want to be ABSOLUTELY certain that they've either seen it or done it.
Simple request me thinks, if not, i expect it will go unanswered.

Being An avid conc jumper myself, considering i taught Lucky, and many others how to do it.
It is an invaluable skill I agree with some.. where we should have new tactics so its not just JK in the Quake 3 world.
however we should not lose sight of what made us fall in love with the game in the first place, and has kept us playing for 3+ yrs.
Remember its another addition, not a brand new game.

awww, didn't like my shameless request for a response? I suppose it could start a trend if it had gotten a response.
Please change the title to Horizontal Weapon Jumping: A Unique JK Technique.
U guys really should have read my post before picking a new title fer thread.

btw, u should have read the title of the damn thread too, i wasn't requesting anyone to *read* this thread, i wanted an actual *response*.
Thats worth asking for, and there's plenty of reason for it.
And while requesting a response from extremely busy raven employees might not seem intelligent to u, [it doesn't to me] I still thought the obscurity of the conc jump compared to its relevance when one considers things that make JK uniquely JK, necessitated some idiotic attention grabber so as to possibly illicit a response from Raven. Not that i expected it. TY for ruining my chances tho =P
Anyhow, If im not allowed to ask for a response from raven, even tho 10's of people do it in their threads consistently, and prolly will continue to do so, at least change the title of the thread to what i suggested in last post.

it has been in other games..
in q3 with RA or some non self damage mod, you will find people doing tripple or double rocket jumps, 1 to gain height, the other to go horrizontal, eg q3dm6 from the red armour (yellow in TDM) to the rail shelf with 2 rockets..
I've never seen it in tribes but wouldnt doubt someone if they said it could be done.
Quake 1 players used it to get up speed for mad jumps.. I am sure the devs will know of weapon jumps of all sorts.

Like I previously stated, if they want to respond, they will.

No, none of those are specifically horizontal. In JK u have one jump with one gun to go straight up, the other one shoots u about the same distance sideways.
There are *other* weapons jumps, but none that are similar to JK's in that its the central focus of one gun to go horizontal. U can't use the conc to go very high.
The reason why its worth mentioning is that it adds all sorts of dimmensions to movement thru a lvl. Alot of folks don't take the jumps into account when making user made lvls and then their lvls are accidentally misbalanced cause of the jump. For instance, last weeks lotw at massassi was higher ground. It was possible to snag a conc, ammo, and the ss, without endangering yerself using a conc jump.
also, say if u were going to try to jump thru a window placed under a low vaulted ceilng, u'd need somthin to send u straight sideways instead of up.
ALSO, the conc jump sends u sideways from *anywhere*. For most jumps, like the rocket jumps in q3, u need a wall to achieve this, not possible to do it straight off the ground, u get too much height.
So that said, I still think strictly horizontal weapon jumps are pretty unique to JK.

But that is what force speed is for: fast horizontal movement.

hes talking about the pointless activity of nf jk
leave the force powers out of it, conks do long jumps, rails high jumps..
tho in q3 you can do decent long jumps with a rl although you gain height.. the quake 1 rl was better.
I do not tho thing that the jumps were planned, and were quite accidental, the coolest things never come around through planning imho..
I do agree with lucky that very few levels actually take jumps into account.. most user made levels I find quite dull for gameplay dynamics.. which was why I actually started making levels of my own..

actually this has made my think of a point I was meaning to bring up..
just an off the head suggestion but hows about making force jump and force run the same power.
if you are looking horrizontally or below the horrizone and press button, you go fast
horrizontally, if you are looking up, you jump preportionally to where you are looking, could be interesting, so you could do horrizontal jumps, or verticle jumps, or somewhere in between. just an idea.

Thats actually a pretty good idea kb.
The idea in planning lvls and item placement with sideways movement in mind is what i consider unique bout JK, u see it a lot in ctf lvls.
It's almost like having a 3rd function for a gun. Adds a lot of complexity having distinct weapons jumps like that, i'd like to see mebe 3-4 distinct jumps.
