It wont be improved. Its just gonna be totally different. Probably similar to the SOF AI which was pretty cool

The AI will be better, for sure. Aren't they using that LICH AI system? Anyway, they've got a couple of guys just working on the AI for their two FPS projects: JK II and SOF. The enemies are bound to be smart.

Question

So what can you tell us about LICH? Could end users tweak bot AI?

Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

Short answer: nothing.

Long answer: bugger all.

I read it on the <A HREF="http://www.storm.hammer.btinternet.co.uk/jofaq.htm">FAQ</A> at <A HREF="http://www.storm.hammer.btinternet.co.uk/johq.htm">StormHammer's Jedi Outcast HQ</A>:
Quote:
Raven have developed their own additions to the Q3A engine, including a hit zone and animation system known as GHOUL2, a scripting system known as ICARUS, and an advanced AI system known as LICH. They have also managed to tweak the engine to produce twice the number of polygons on screen, which should result in more detailed environments.
Ask StormHammer, I would.

It would be great to see some decent Team like AI from Stormies, at least until they spot you and come runnig at you shooting.

It looks from the screenshots like they might actually walk around in formation. Think how much more atmosphere would be got if they talked, and pointed and gave orders.

Eg: you are hiding and 10 stormtroopers march in. If you resist the impulse to attack them then 1 of them motions to the door and says "you two wait here" and then the others march off. Then the others stand there, shuffle occasionally, discuss what is going on. etc... It could all be pre-scripted until they actually spot you, but it would add a lot of atmosphere, a bit like in theif.

That is a great idea, TomS. I would love to see that in JO.

Going back to Seyla's original post, im going to have to disagree a little w/ your AI idea. The dark Jedi should be well trained, because, aren't they Jedi? Yet, i do agree that the ST should be smarter.

There is a scripted moment very much like this in MotS on level 2, while you are exploring the asteroid. Basically, you went up a lift, got to the top, picked up a key, and when you came to go down the lift again, there were about 10 stormtroopers entering the room below you. I'd really love to see scripted moments like this in JK2.

yes, it makes it feel more movie like, and thats one of the reasons we play, to be like our hero, be it han, or luke or darth, or whoever. so, the more real, or movie-like, it seems the better it will go over.

I would love to hear the conversations between stormies!

"I'll play you in Sabaac after this"
"Sure."
"Did you hear about the (insert sporty sounding vehicle)?"
"Yea, I love the (insert cool vehicle part)"

What else?

I just hope that when you shoot one stormie the others react, but I guess that's a given...

How about if a single stormie spots you, instead of just mindlessly blasting you, he takes the time to inform the others on his com-link?

This was done a couple of times in Elite Force. An example is this one place where you are onboard the scavenger station and you have to climb over a beam above a room filled with Klingons. You hear the Klingons talk about how they hate working together with the Humans and the other aliens.
It would suprise me if they didn't do things like that in JK2. But what would be even better if they made it so the AI characters interact with each other without having to script it (at random). Like people saying hello to each other in the streets. Just little things like that which make the game seem more real. Complete intelligent conversations at random would be kinda hard to program, but that would be even better.

Yeah, some of the scripted moments in Elite Forceare brilliant. There's another bit on the scavenger vessel when you walk past a slightly open door and the guys inside say "did you hear something?". A moment later a few of them come out of the door to check it out. You have to hide yourself, coz if they spot you, one of them will raise the alarm.

I agree, these sort of moments do make the game far more cinematic.

Hey, PreTZel, thanks for the welcome!
BTW, X-Wing pilots aren't averse to a visit to a hive of scum and villainy like this.

Now how about an introductory drink?

Huh, I haven't read anything about LICH in relation to Jedi ( directly from Lucas or Raven ). It's apparently in use for SoF2, but I don't know that you can necessarily assume that it's for Jedi as well.

And that stuff about making the engine be able to render twice as many polys.....well, it sounds like what they really mean is that with faster computers and better video cards, they are designing models and levels with twice as many polys. In other words, it sounds like they've merely upped the specs.

It'll be interesting to see what official details are.

Has anyone ever played No One Lives Forever? Well it has great AI (like the stuff u were talking about). The will run for help if they see you, launch coordinated attacks, and react to sound. They also have funny conversations . Oh and if a security camera sees you or a dead body, the alarm will sound and guards come to kill you and the only way to survive is to ambush them or get ye old faithful rocket launcher! You will be forced to use a silenced weapon!

YUN'S DEAD!?!? HOW COME NOBODY TOLD ME?!?!?

I was talking to my cousin about this a while back and he firmly believes that the only way they were able to have that prototype done in a month was because they used EF as a base.

It sort of makes sense when you consider that the people working on JK also worked on EF. I suppose because it's Q3, it's fairly easy to move stuff between JK and SoF2, but then again...they are completely different kinds of games. So...I don't think that one should assume that they would even require the same kind of technology.

In the end, we won't really know until we get more details.
