I hope we get a response on Syko's question about using force powers.
I hated cycling through all the force powers or reaching across the keyboard to just make a force jump. It's probably the only thing I'm really worried about concering this game.
The Raven response to only using the basic six keys for all the acrobatics was very encouraging.
I hope we'll see these buttons all close together, in a very accessable position:
Up, Down, Strafe Left, Strafe Right
Jump, Crouch
Use Force Power
I think the mouse wheel would be best for cycling through force powers while weapon cycling would be better fit for the number keys.
In the trailer, the player seemed to use force powers very fluidly, without the need to pause to look through his/her force power list.

Dismemberment
While I don't think it completely nessicary(sp) to have blood and guts all over the place (I think JK2 can do WITHOUT gibbing people), I DO remember MANY times in Jedi Knight when I'd cut off the arm of an enemy, and it would fall the ground, trailing blood behind it. I remember the first time I did that, and I said to myself, "HA! I found blood a Star Wars game!" ... :|
But yeah, I remember what it was like to play Rune, and get a head shot. The head pops off and goes flying. I can't argue with that...it was pretty neat. I think, because Lightsabers cut through virtually anything...that there is no real problem with having an arm or a leg, or a pinky finger here and there come shooting past Kyle's head when he cuts it off...and making a little bullet pining noise. :| Okay, so maybe that would be corny. Leave that out. But an arm or leg, or the head...that would be pretty neat. Maybe with not all the blood (lightsabres, I think might cauterize(sp) the wound), though.
Now for the real question...those of you who understood a word of what I just said, raise your hand.

I agree the wheel may be best suited for cycling though the force powers. With the saber being such a key weapon it is unlikely you will want to use anything else very often.
I hope i can assign actions to the extra side buttons on my intelli mouse explorer like i could in Max Payne.

Um...errr...
...about the release date.
March 29th?
Isn't that Good Friday?
Don't know about the US or anywhere else, but that's a bank holiday in the UK. Don't think many shops are going to be open!
What's the story then? Are we actually going to have to wait until the 30th?
Where's my calendar?

Anakin,
Have you tried downloading the offline installer from the Quicktime site? It means you can install without having to be connected to the web?
Or is that you can't download anything at all at work?
(I had similar problems!)

You can do that in any game.
Now before you start: "No i cant do it in this and that" let me finish
Bind the function you want on one of hte buttons to a key like F4 or another function key.
Then tell the mouse, with the software, to use that key not as back or forward but as, you guessed it, F4 or a function key.

I guess everyone had multiple orgasms over this trailer
I think you will be able to push back people who are using Force Rage or Pull them and move out of the way, sending them flying off a cliff If not, you could use grip continously until his Rage expires or if you have level 3, you can just place him over an edge, and wait for the grip to expire or you could jump to a higher ledge because Im pretty sure you cant use force powers when you have Rage on so its appearent Rage is going to be a power used only in certain circumstances when you know it will be effective.
Oh my Grip push and pull are going to make for some hilarious scenarios

I know you go to Bespin in the game, and I know it looks very similar to the carbon chamber... but, doesn't it look like a related area or something? and not quite the actual deal? it's designed quite a bit differently than it was in MOTS *or* the movie if I recall.
And some tell-tale stuff seems to be missing, like... the carbon freezing pit?
*shrug*

Force power keys
Force jump is the same key as the jump key, very easy to use.
Force powers can be bound to individual keys and/or you can bind 2 keys to scroll through them and 1 key to use the selected force power. I, personally, bind the most common (push and pull) ones to keys close to my movement keys, the ones I use a little less (lightning, grip) are still fairly close and the ones I only have to use in certain circumstances (heal, mind trick, speed) are still within finger-reach... (my config is the arrow keys for movement, rshift for crouch, rctrl for jump and numpad for force powers)...

saber damage
hiya guys don't think this has been mentioned, but at 01:13 the player is struck with a sabre by an other player with force rage and the strike takes away 35 shield points... as opose to doing direct damage, bypassing shields.

Cool, another Raven post, you guys rock! I didn't think it would be a problem assigning the force powers to the keyboard for easy use, but posts like yours helps us get pumped up!
ChangKhan[RAVEN] why is the scoring like 400+ points in the Capture the Ysalimari part of the video, were you guys playing a very very long game, or is the scoring alot higher in this mode? thx in advance.

I think it is longer only because it is closer to the camera viewpoint (perspective issue.)

Its Force Rage.
And I don't think there is going to be any kind of 'extended lightsaber'. What you see there is just a product of camera angles.

That red aura around Jan is a Sith force power -- force rage.
Thanks for the response, Chang. I guess I'll just have to tweak my controls here and there. I use a pretty similair config to yours.
However, that little revelation you gave us -- that force jump is used with the same key as a regular jump -- that is awesome! I'm guessing we just hold down on the jump key longer to build up the height of the jump. Sounds great.
Maddenman, I think the scoring is higher in the Yslamari/team games. Have you ever played Team Fortress Classic (another mod of Halflife)? You get around ten points for capturing the flag and it can build up. Maybe that trailer was showing team score for that MP game? Or maybe you can toggle between your individual score and your team score?

I'll just answer a zillion things at once.
The saber is the same length in MP as in SP. The blur effect might make it look a tad bigger when in motion.
You guys need to chill on this batsaber thing. There isn't any knockback from sabers in MP. The crazy knockback in the first trailer was an anomaly of the particular build they were using at the time. The reason there's some (smaller amount of) knockback in SP is because it feels good and gives the player feedback as to his actions. Don't try to apply science, real lasers are boring.
You can't change the length of your saber (asked in another thread). Someone could mod it easily if they really wanted to, however.
The red effect around Jan was Dark Rage. A raged player also moves and attacks faster, hence her whirlwind of death.
I bound all four buttons plus the wheel in my Intellimouse explorer.

I'd just like to give a big thanks for taking the time to read and respond to the posts on this forum. I think it's really cool that "big guy developers" still care about the people they make their games for. Thanks again! -Noodly
