Real concerned about speed of game...
I've been watching and lusting over the ingame movies like the rest of you but am concerned that since JO uses the Q3A engine, the game is going to have the same speed of character models that Q3A does.
IMHO, it would seriously harm the reality of a game such as this for the characters to be moving at Q3A speeds. It just wouldn't be realistic at all.
Come someone comment on the speed of the models?

I am concerned too. It looked like the guys were
running around at twice the speed of a real person.
It could be due to the video skipping frames or something
but I doubt it. Most quake games seem to move to quickly
for my taste. They just seem to move to fast.

Relax, the Raven team has played Dark Force, Jedi Knight, and MOTS
They know how it needs to be done... It'll be great

Im a little concerned to.
Fact is it will probably be more fast paced then q3 arena considering everone will use force speed. At least 80% in JK ran with force speed all the time.
I dont like any quake engine, they are to stiff.
But If u look at what Valve did with the q2 engine when they made half-life u realise that it can be cut down to little pieces and rebuilt in many ways. HL feels nothing like q2.
Just hope thats the case here, also the 3rd person perspective will help it not feel like q3.

Oh, forgot to mention, Raven has alot of experience with the 3rd perspective. They made Heretic 2(and 1) wich was a really good 3rd person shooter, extremely underestimated game. fun fun fun.

i hope it isn't slow paced actually... jks fast paced saber play was superior to real life sword duels.
reality is inferior to gameplay.

also:
only about 10% of the original engine code is still intact...
"considering everone will use force speed"
What makes you think this is possible?
theyll be out of mana in no time
No mana recharge while using a force power... Force speed lasts about 5 seconds... Trust me, Raven are very experienced, they thought this thing through...

!?!?!?!? Elaborate please
The developers playing Dark Forces, Jedi Knight 2, MOTS to see what would be expected of them, what they would have to live up to, HARDLY appears to support your statement!

ok...yes...it is based upon the dark forces, jedi knigth MOTS etc....and yes they have played them all. But from the gasme clips, the engines it's bassed on....the game looks more like Elite Force or Quake 3 more then anything else. It's going to be a very faced paced game, which Q3 and EF both are. If you think when you your goint to play it (online and single player) it will feel and act like Jedi Knight or MOTS, (just with better graphics) i think your going to be in for a shock.
Unless i'm totally wrong and i'm in for a shock.

Boys, HL was a hybrid of Quake 1, Quake 2, and Valve's own engine coding. Thus, it's called the "Half-Life" engine. Valve took 20% Q1, 30% Q2, and 50% its own code.

Well, I have to disagree. I just started to play through Jedi Knight and you move insanely fast. You could run through the whole level in a minute! (If you hold the run key)
Hey lightshadow: I recently built a system for my cousin that totaled 670, we got the parts from pricewatch.com and a local store. You just need someone that knows how to put it together.
(It's specs, in case you're curious):
250 watt ATX case
16x DVD rom drive
20x burner
Athlon XP 1600
ECS K7S5A mb
40gb 7200 rpm HD
Soundblaster Live!
Geforce 2 MX400
256mb DDR2100 RAM
Some optical mouse/new keyboard too. No monitor tho

ryu: Just visit http://www.pricewatch.com and if you find something you want, click on it. then that links info will be displayed in the top frame, click "website" and it will take you to the companies website. There, you can see if they ship overseas. I imagine it would be costy if they do, but it may still be lest than the cost of a part in your local store. The local store I was refering too is http://www.compusaveinc.net and they also now do shipping, but I don't know where too. Hope this helps!

Heh, thats funny. The engine was good for its time. Counter-Strike and TFC were 2 fountains of youth that still give it life today. Just because the game is still played a lot doesn't mean the engine is GOD.. Technically, Quake 3 smacks down Half-Life anyday. Its like an X-wing fighting a Star Destroyer. The X-Wing will kill some parts, but the bigger ship wins in this case.

Okay, that's a myth and I wish people would stop repeating it. The Half Life engine is based on Quake1 yes, but also Quake2. In the end, very little code remains of either engine, but to say that it has "nothing to do with Quake2" is incorrect.
Cracken's statement is much more accurate. Some people don't seem to realize that just because a game uses an engine, the gameplay doesn't have to look identical. When they say they used somebody's engine, they can have all kinds of reasons for doing that, but it's just a BASE for the code, that doesn't mean they have to end up using any of it, they could change 100% of it in the end result. It just might be easier in some cases to have something to start with to change around to tailor to your needs, rather than starting from scratch.. which is why companies do it for games in the first place. Notice a game like Alice.. uses the Q3 engine, nothing like Q3, it's not even an FPS! Or Rune with the Unreal engine.. etc.

Hmm, is it not possible that they actually speeded up the trailer by a certain percentage maybe, just to give it more of a bingbaddabing "feel?"

I don't see why it's such a bad thing to have the gameplay be as fast as JK/MotS... and keep in mind most FPS games have unrealistically high movements speeds anyway (and with a few exceptions, you never get tired).

If you watch the E3 video, it should put a lot of your fears to rest. In that video the game doesn't look too fast at all and it is probably the best indication since it shows continous gameplay not multiple scenes.
