Question Full screen anti-aliasing?

Apologies if this seems a silly question, or if it is one that has been covered elsewhere.

It it possible to switch on full screen anti-aliasing?

I have a card that seems to support it (geforce 4 MX), as do certain games (e.g. Sacrifice that came free with the card)

Is it just not a feature in the Quake 3 engine?

thanks in advance

you can enable fsaa in the config menus of the nvidia drivers ... i works without any problem in jk2 ... but it takes a lot performance

Thanks.

I guess at this point I can stop being a noob and look up how to do this at nVidia.

Should anyone wish to talk me through it though...

OK - I worked that one out...

(Control Panel>>Display>>Settings>>Advanced>>GeForce4 MX 440>>Additional Properties)

but...

With AA switched on transitions from Game to control screens slows right down. Eg hitting Quicksave is no longer instant, but takes around 25 seconds.

Interestingly this problem goes away if I run in a window. Tried various screen and desktop resolutions.

System.
Win2K
PIII 500
256Mb
64MB MSI gForce4 MX 440

haha, it took me so long to get this posted you figured it out first

anyway, I had noticed the same with AA on, very long save times. With AA off, at 1280x1024, quick saves are instant. With it on, 10 seconds or so.

there is an option that turns on a tray icon as well in the advanced area, so you don't have to always go thru that much work to turn AA on and off in case you didn't notice yet.

I think with a lower end rig you would be better off leaving the FAA off.. As you noticed you take a major hit in performance with it on.. I would suggest that until you get a faster rig and a about 512 of ram to just leave it as is..

Thanks for the help guys, I think I will leave things switched on.

Even with my modest setup, switching on FSAA (4x) does NOT (to my eye) hit *in game* performance. I havn't measured FPS, but everything runs smoothly at 800x600.

The problem was associated with quicksave, or exiting to the options screen (Esc): the game would pause for around 20 secs before doing its thing. I *think* it was loading new settings in the background before displaying, but who knows - the problem has gone:

I had a go at switching on and off FSAA in game, and Hey Presto, the pause before switching went away.

I'm sorry to say I don't know the *exact* steps I took to get rid of the pause, but will post them if I can recreate the situation. It may have just been a "wierd state".

My only problem now is wiping the spit off my screen when I go P'TEOO P'TEOO.
