Here's a fun list-type poll that might spark interesting talk. Basically...who do you consider your top five heroes? I'm not talking about comic book heroes, kids
(although you're certainly free to choose them if you wish,) but rather those people whose examples you have found the most inspirational in life.
Zoom Rabbit's answers:
1: God, and by extension the Jewish mystic we call Jesus Christ. Since in my worldview God is a sentience we reach from within, I consider Him my first and best teacher. Plus, He's a really nice deity with rays of light and stuff.
2: Joan of Arc. This young woman's example of listening to God first and people second gives me much inspiration. She was a class act when it comes to demonstrations of faith.
3: J.R.R. Tolkien. The good professor's attention to detail and ability to weave a narrative backdrop have inspired many writers, and at least one cook. Tolkien and I share the same birthday.
4: Siddartha Gautama. A mystic from ancient India whose ideas concerning transcension of the self have been invaluable to much of mankind. When it comes to unblinking inspection of the mysteries, Siddartha was an unequaled explorer.
5: Pete Townshend. A rock star, along with the rest of these august presences...? Sure, why not?
See? That wasn't hard at all.
