Change I'd like to see in Scoring...
I dont always finish with the top score in FFA games.... but I pride myself in staying alive.
Sometimes, I'll only score 15 kills in a server, but I wont die a single time... I'd like to see this change in the way score is kept
If you die, you lose a point. If you kill someone, you gain a point. It might actually make for a more interesting game if people became concerned with staying alive, rather than trying to rack up as many kills as possible as fast as possible

Good idea.
The only drawback I could see would be people hiding in the last couple of minutes when they're in the lead, for fear of being killed and losing the match.
Of course, that makes it MORE fun for those NOT winning as they get to try to hunt down the leader and spoil their victory. You know, the more I think about this, the more I like it. It would prevent runaway games as well, where the kill limit is 20, the leader wins in 5 minutes and the others have only 2 or 3 kills, but the leader has died 10 times. Might balance the games better.
One thing I think should be removed, however, is the ability to kill yourself. I've chucked people to their doom or had a bead on them with a homing rocket and they kill themselves to deny me their death. That is the epitome of 'cheap'.

That's a silly idea. I'd be all for a "deaths" score, a la UT, where it lists how many times you've killed someone AND how many times you've died, but what you're proposing could have someone in the top three with a 0 score. That's just silly.
Scoring is never perfect in any game. You can't concern yourself with a numerical representation of how you did. If you had fun, you won.
And if you came out on first too, good for you.

there should simply be two extra columns.. one that lists the number of deaths, then a simple kill/death ratio.
List is still sorted by frag count but at least everyone could see who the best defended players are.
Something like this (which incidentially is my favorite server to hang out on, heh):

You'll notice that very very few people have higher than 75%, now THOSE are the people to look out for, even if they don't have the highest frag count. ;)

I also pride myself in staying alive and I think the score should be done like this.
Any idiot can run around spamming and get a score of 30 kills and 30 deaths. Staying alive and getting a score is where true skill lies.

I would hate to see the scoring changed that way. Listing those stats would be fine. Changing the scoring like that would really make the game discouraging for new players. A new player would rather see a 3 or 4 by their name than a -17.
That would just encourage too much running away, which there already is enough of.

i totally disagree with the different scoring; however, i have always thought that jk2 needed a second column for deaths. i always try not to die.

hrmmm, yeah would turn the game into more classic deathmatch. right now, the only incentive for staying alive is the ability to kill the person you're fighting. if you die, then you simply respawn somewhere else and join a different (or possibly the same) battle. a death count i wouldnt be adverse to, but not penalties for dying, it would make killing people harder, as they would simply run away when low on health. it would also send shield/health/bacta camping through the roof. i think the scoring's fine as it is ...
