It was Zanzibar. But, as Master Qui-Gon said, Lucasarts won't let him release the patch yet.

Its been about a year why won't they?I mean look you would think that having a different character would boast sales of the game.

Yeah, actually it's been over a year. It'd be very cool to have additional characters, but given the choice I'd rather have more game play (additional or expanded levels) because, to be honest, I'd be perfectly happy to keep playing as Qui-Gon.
None of it will happen though. LA won't do anything further with TPM, but at the same time they won't let anybody else do anything with it either. It says a lot that Zanzibar's willing to do it for us though. I guess Big Ape is our friend, but LA is not. Kinda like Fox is our friend but LucasFilm is not (at least not if you have a DVD player).
Hey Mace did you just change you name? Who'd you used to be?

I don't know. It would be cool because I am staring to get bored with TPM. We'll just have to wait and see. I used to be ForceJediKnight. I haven't been on here for a while and I forgot my password so I just made a new user name.

To tell the truth i'd rather have both. And if lucasarts doesn't release it within the next week I will do 1 of twp things.
1.Attack him with his own creations(Battle Droids&Destroyer Droids)
2.Make my own patches for me and my friends.
What I would put is the podrace and battle with the Trade Federation Battle ship(Piloting pod and N-1 as Anakin)
And make darthmaul playable.
How do you like that?

The patch released by Lucasarts only deals with a compatibility crash problem with the TPM Launcher and DirectX 7. If you're running DirectX 7 and hit the Hardware Configuration button in the Launcher, it locked up on a fairly regular basis.
Yes, the Mace Windu patch is more or less done (it's not pretty...if I release it I'll work on making it look better) and the Darth Maul is barely started But, as Master Qui-Gon mentioned, Lucasarts apparently doesn't want anything else to happen with TPM. Now, I personally would release them, but I can't risk any kind of bad blood between LEC and Big Ape.

Whats the point in making them then?i mean why make them and make others who know you made wait and wait and wait and so on and besides you would be waisting time making it not having it released and all.
But just to keep this in a good mood why don't we justBomb lucasarts headquarters

During the time between TPM PC's release and the PSX version release, I had quite a bit of free time, as the Sony programmers down at Lucasarts were working feverishly to overcome obstacles, leaving little for me to do. So, some of our programmers slapped together a multiplayer LAN version of TPM, and I added a little bit to the pot by making the Mace model to use in the MP version.
We approached Lucasarts about including Maul and Mace as playable characters, that we'd include in the PSX version and release in a patch for the PC version, much the same way that LEC released the N-1 Starfighter for "Rogue Squadron." However, the LEC Sony programmers already had too much on their plate by that time, and implementing a "cheat code" system had already been kiboshed by that point (although I hear that the debug code wound up in the finished PSX version anyways :P), so Lucasarts passed on the idea.
So while we initially built the models for Big Ape in-house fun, we also did our part in trying to release them. Since LEC passed, we have to respect their decision. I have indeed tried talking to them about releasing it several times over the past 2 months, but no concrete responses.

Another cool patch would be if you could be one of those guards on the Mos Espa levels or if you could be a battle droid or a destroyer droid.

I started on TPM in August of '97, but there was a lot of programming and tool creation done prior to that, maybe 4-6 months worth. The tool and engine for TPM was initially developed for a 'Classic' SW game (Eps 4-6) with an original story, but was changed to Ep 1 during the summer of '97.

Nope, that got canned. It was initially a story about a young man (Luke's age or younger) who witnesses a ship crash-landing near his home. He explores the ship to find an old Jedi Knight, mortally wounded. He gives the boy a quest, to complete the old man's journey for him.
There is something of great power (this item was unclear...perhaps some Sith scrolls, or even the Kaiburr Crystal from the 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye') that lots and LOTS of people are after - Empire, the Hutts, assorted bounty hunters. It was the old Jedi's mission to travel to a safe place to deliver the item, far from anyone's grasp.
Along the way, our intrepid hero would come across several different paths to obtain his goal; finding people to trust who can accompany him on his journey. Exposure to this item actually increases his sensitivity to the Force, and soon the Old Jedi can speak to him to give him guidance, like Obi-Wan did to Luke on Hoth etc. etc. in addition to gaining Force powers.
This idea got axed when LEC realized they wanted an Ep 1 game. We resurrected the idea briefly for a TPM sequel starring Obi-Wan or even another young Jedi Knight, but LEC passed...now that I look at the idea, while it might be fun, it also could be deathly dull if it's not done right.

Yeah, that would be fun. So are there going to be any Big Ape SW games in the nearby future that you know of?

No. Big Ape is working on some tool development stuff for Lucasarts, but we're also producing the Simpsons Wrestling title for Fox Interactive, due around Christmas of this year.
We're trying to line up another deal for our next title, but Lucasarts apparently is satisfied with Big Ape just producing tools for them.
Don't get me wrong, I'd really love to do another SW title, but I'm not so sure that LEC is overly thrilled with us right now. TPM sold well, but they were really hoping for a blockbuster, which it wasn't. I think a big reason for TPM's lackluster sales (only in a Star Wars game could 1.7 million or so be called lackluster ) is the fact that a lot of people were disappointed in the movie - and sales for ALL Star Wars Ep 1 merchandise were staggeringly less than what Lucasfilm had hoped for.
Not to say that the game is an incredible game without flaws; we could have done more than a few things better around here at Big Ape. But a lot of the things that TPM was hammered for in the press was stuff that LEC wanted by design, yet somehow we alone were the ones that screwed up :P
(The preceding was an editorial, and does not necessarily reflect the views of Big Ape Productions Inc.)

Too bad. You'd think that the least they could do for those people who like TPM would let you release those patches that you have made.
