Explain a couple of things to me

Hey there, people. I've seen the wonder that is the movie. But there were a couple of confusing points, please clear it up.

1. Was the girl's name Padme, or Amidala? I got the impression from the last movie that it was the latter, and she was just using the name Padme as a disguise while she was a handmaiden.

2. So who ordered the clones to be made and why? It wasn't the Federation, the jedis had no idea about it. As far as I can figure out, it was Palpatine because he wanted an army of clones. He just maunevered the clones against his own army of battledroids to plunge the Federation into war. Is that right?

3. I've read many people point out the actor for Jango Fett is Australian. Just thought I'd clear up the point: he's New Zealand. We Australians were sitting around laughing at his clearly New Zealand accent.

4. This movie has plenty that's been cut out of it. I went to a sci-fi conn, and one of the actors there is Sandi Finlay, who played Sly Moore. Now if the movie was less edited, people would know who she was: she was in the movie for 12 minutes and had a speaking role. As it was, she was cut down to 2 scenes, standing there silently. She was the bald grey chick who was around Palpatine, and her character's name was Sly Moore. Funnily enough, I could have sworn that the dying Bounty Hunter at the start said Sly Moore. Comments?

First of all:

1. This bit did confuse me. Her first name definately is Padme, but why would she call her handmaiden Padme aswell? I know it was her body guard, but if Padme (the Portman Padme) was her real name, surely everyone would have known it and she'd have called her body guard something more original like Bob or something. As for Amidala, that must be her surname.

2. I reckon Palpatine did order the clones, and he disguised himself as that Jedi who died about 10 years ago.

3. As for the accent, I'm not from Australia or New Zealand, so no comment there (no offence).

4. I didn't notice or hear the name really. kind of proves your point.

Anyone else? I really need the 2nd point explained to me. I'm trying to write a nitpicker's guide on my website, confusion about it isn't helping.

What I can't get my head round is that is Palpatine and Darth Sidious the same person? They sure do look and sound like the same person, but if they're not, what happens to Sidious after Anakin joins Palpatine as Vader? Does he just disappear?

Ah, so many questions...

I do think though that Palpatine is already using his power in the film to callapse the Republic in on itself, but I wonder...

Her name is Padme Amidala. And Jango is most certainly a New Zealander (As an Aussie I can point out the difference in accent), he's played by Tamuera (sp?) Morrison, who is a Maori (Native New Zealander) and lead actor in one of New Zealands best movies, Once Were Warriors

I find this whole Australia/New Zealand debate very funny. Like the australians really don't want Jango him to be australian. They really point it out, Like HEY no way hes an Australian, listen to the accent.

Is there a rivalry between those 2 countries. I mean, I'm from Canada, and I can understand a bit because when I travel at the other end of the world, people think that I'm american, that Canada is a state of the USA. I'm then more than happy to say no, no, no...

But is there something we should know to understand better.

Padme Amidala. Ah. Thanks. Now that makes sense.

As far as I know, Palpatine becomes the Emperor from RotJ. You can see that they're very similiar. Emperor, Palpatine, Darth Sidious, all the same person.

The Jango Fett actor guy (Tamuera Morrison) is the guy from 'Once Were Warriors', and a New Zealander. You can tell by the accent. We Australians have nothing but the fondest feelings for our New Zealand neighbours. Honestly. Which is why I'm saying that he's New Zealand. Many actors that Australia claims are Australian actors actually come from New Zealand.

For an example of a New Zealand accent, read the following:

fush and chups
chully bun (which we call an eski in Australia)
Thut's choyce! I ugree, ut as choyce! Wilcum buck to the Tum and Phul show!

Read it exactly as it's typed. That'll give you fair idea of the New Zealand accent.

In the visual dictionary of TPM the queen is called Padmé Naberrie Amidala.

Amidala was he "Royal" name, but she was born Padme Naberrie.

The handmaiden Padme never existed until The queen was replaced by her decoy, then the queen becomes a handmaiden and uses her birth name, Padme. When Amidla was sitting on her throne as the Queen, none of the Handmaidens went by the name, Padme.

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rain fall softly on your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand

Honestly. Which is why I'm saying that he's New Zealand. Many actors that Australia claims are Australian actors actually come from New Zealand.

This is true and rather sad...

I read a local news article the other day where it mentioned "Aussie" Russell Crowe and "Kiwi" Peter Jackson.

Russel Crowe is the leading man, therefore we will accept him as an honourary Aussie.

Peter Jackson is a short, fat weird looking behind-the-scenes director, therefore he is a Kiwi.

Go figure.

"At this stage I believe I now understand the truth, which is that Lucas has gone over to the dark side. He is a Darth Billionaire ruling an empire, and is no longer leading a rebellion. He was once a semi-independent force, overshadowed by a dark and powerful business, but still managed to beat the odds and on his own terms, but now he sits on a throne with lightning in his hands and a franchise in his clenched fist."

Sam Niel is considered an Australian as well, despite the fact that he's from New Zealand. He's great, that guy.

And Olivia Newton John? Can't stand her, but apparently since she was in Grease, that makes her a great actress. She's touted as being Australian, despite the fact that she was born in the UK.

I think that the criteria for being called Australia is that you've been here for more than two weeks. If your famous, you have to be vaguely aware that Australia exists. Then you're Australian.

lol, the Australian debate is hillarious--quite honestly I don't understand how english speaking people get the accents confused, they're really obviously different...and I'm a Canadian living in California!!!

I might have missed someone replying to this...but here goes--Dooku orders the Clone Army, at the behest of Palpatine/Sidious, posing as Sifo-Dyas.

So you're basically right, and it's pretty clear that Palpatine wanted the Rebublic to go into sustained conflict so that he could get an army, lead the army, and use it to assert direct control over the galaxy.

Okay everything's been explained adequately except this:
If you think you've missed something because you don't know who ordered the Clones made... YOU'RE NOT. Sifo-Dyas' true identity will be revealed in Episode III. It's supposed to be left unanswered so we can sit around for three years going "who's that guy?"

We can't say for sure who Sifo-Dyas is just from Episode II. Since Yoda and Mace and Obi-Wan all know that he "died" ten years ago, they must have known what he looked like. Therefore it couldn't have been Dooku who was a Jedi at the same time, or Palpatine/Sidious who was a well-known senator at the time, unless as someone mentioned they wore a disguise to be Sifo-Dyas, which is a bit silly considering they would have to had worn it for several decades before they got to be a significant member of the Jedi Council.

It is supposed to be like this. They put a cliffhanger at the end of Empire Strikes Back so people would come back to Return of the Jedi, and this time they've left questions unanswered so we'll all come back for Episode III.

That's not really a cliffhanger. Is Darth Vader Luke's father is a cliffhanger--it's shocking, unbelieveable.

Who is Sifo-Dyas, a character mentioned twice in the movie, and never mentioned before that???

Someone impersonated him after he died, possibly at the hands of Sidious or Dooku, or some other baddie. Do you really think the Kaminoans, who the Jedi effectively forgot for 10 years know the difference between one Jedi and another?

If it is supposed to be a cliffhanger...Lucas really IS losing his touch; which, IMHO, he isn't.

In case this hasn't clearly been answered yet, I'll have a go at it. The emperor in the OT is Emperor Palpatine. Chain is like this... Senator -> Supreme Chancellor -> fall of republic -> Palpatine becomes Emperor -> reveals sith background to strike fear into the Galactic Empire so that no opposition will appear... But we all know how well that works out...

btw, I say that he reveals himself as a Sith because Tarkin says that he rules with FEAR... People don't fear ordinary people. They fear people with evil, destructive power much like that of the Siths...

It's Padmé Amidala (remember the other women are Cordé, Dormé etc.), besides that should be clear if you tried to access any of the www.starwars.com/www.theforce.net sites.....

I got 4 words for ya: Palapatine->Holocron<-Sifa-Dyas->Sidious.

Everything that was cut out wasn't important actually. Wether it was too long or if it was expanding the story, it doesn't matter. Yu'll see it in the frikin DVD, comes out in November.
