I'm sorry, but the X-Box is a big breeze block. Gamecube is not only smaller, it looks nicer and has far better games.

The PS2 takes the top spot for me, simply because of the number of high quality games. True, there are also a lot of awful games, but it's not like I have to buy them.

unfortunately TV screens only handle 640x480 (unless you have a multi-thousand pound tv) so it goes to waste, which infuriates me more

I'd set my priority with the GameCube, as I haven't seen many titles that truly interest me arrive to the X-box (Other than those available across-platform), and because Nintendo basically rule, rocking socks away from feet whenever necessary.
People are doing some interesting stuff with 'The Box' though, and I'll be snapping one up on the cheap much later to tinker with all the amateur tools, games and emulators that have been made to run on Microsoft's black and green giant. Of course, it will soon have Psychonauts, but you never know. It could be a huge disappointment. Sorry to tempt fate like that.

Xbox rules, because I bought one. I like the way it sits in my room and blocks out the light from the windows and the noise of the fan scares the small children at the primary school over the road. I think one of the main reasons people dislike xbox is because their hands are too small. THE CONTROLLER IS NORMAL SIZED!

Lets investigate...
Best first person shooter: Metroid Prime (GC)
Best platformer: Starfox Adventures (GC)
Best multiplayer: Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)
Best driving game: GTA: Vice City (PS2)
Of course, these are my opinions, not fact.

All of them are good, but I like PC better than any of them.
Adventure: Maniac Mansion (PC)
Action: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)
1st Person Shooter: Halo (Xbox)
3rd Person Shooter: Resident Evil (Gamecube)
Fighting: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (Xbox)
Strategy: Warcraft 3 (PC)
Platformer: Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)
Racing: GT3 (PS2)
Sports: Either PS2 or Xbox.
Oh, here's a Shocker. Ps2 and Xbox tie.

Maniac Mansion, best adventure??? Ok...
By the way, Mortal Kombat is available on all three consoles, not just X-Box. And as the GC has the fastest loading times, and the X-Box has the worst control pad, wouldn't the best version be the cube one?

There is nothing wrong with the xbox control pad, the PS2 and GC controllers are far too small and awkward.

Nintendo has always had the best Super Mario games, so I voted for the Cube. Plus, it has Rogue Leader, and it looks like something you can put things in when it's switched off, making it a valuable interior decoration item too.

Yes... MM best adventure! I know Mk is for all 3. The Gamecube controller is the worst controllor for fighting games.
Also, PTDC, the PS2 controller is the best controller ever. But your right. There is nothing wrong with the Xbox controller.

The N64 controller is the best controller ever, and that comment has probably just sent this thread to hell.

I found a third party n64 controller the other day which I hadn't chucked out, the ergonomics were non-existent. The official controllers were great though, until the analogue stick got worn out

PS2 = Best for games
Xbox = Best inet play and power
Gamecube = Best for old favs like zelda and mario.
SNES = Best for the classics Mario Kart, zelda, sf2 turbo, bomberman, secret of mana (them were the days!)
To be honest its the games that make the console and PS2 is obviously going to be the clear winner there.

Ok, SNES and GC should really be the same option - Mario Kart is rapidly Gamecube bound, in fact Myamoto claims it's finished. Zelda is finished, and available (May 3rd in Europe) as is bomberman. As for secret of Mana - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is apparantly very heavily influenced by it, and is being made by the same people. For example, both are non-turned based, so its already looking good. SF2 - well, it was good at the time - but given the choice, I'd rather have Super Smash Bros. Melee, or Soul Calibre (cube version has Link, so should be rather special.)

Nooooooo - quality, not quantity. PS2 has the most, but not the best. The only good games that are PS2 only are GTA and Metal Gear Solid. Saying that, GTA 3 and Vice City are both available on PC (vice city end of may) with improved graphics and more customisability (is that a word?) and MGS is available on X-Box and PC, and the gamecube is getting a GC-only all new MGS adventure in the near future.

I'm waiting for my Gamecube now, along with Metroid Prime, Zelda and Smash Bros (The new Players Choice range is great). It is a little disappointing that a certain few games that were planned for Gamecube won't make it there (RTX, BS3), but at the end of the day, Nintendo is just one giant pimp, and I am its whore.
There are a few games I would like to play on the PS2, including Kingdom Hearts (Turn-based RPGs with Disney characters will always have a place in my, um, heart), but the Gamecube has at least ten quality titles that I want, and since I don't normally buy heaps of games for my consoles, I opted for the Gamecube.
Even though it's apparently losing the console war or whatever, and places such as Dixons are selling off all of their Gamecube-related goods (hint hint), I'd still rather play the current line-up rather than the PS2s back and forward catalogues. I nearly bought an Xbox, but only due to Psychonauts, and I've decided instead to wait a couple of years and then get one while they're dying out.
I hope that games like Crystal Chronicles don't suffer any bumps on the way, bumps that mean they don't actually appear on the Gamecube, because that would make me a somewhat sad panda. I didn't know about Mario Kart, although I hear that "Mario 128" is in production as well as "Metroid Prime 2". Hopefully plenty of announcements will be made at E3, particularly announcements involving new-to-Gamecube games rather than sequels to stuff we've already seen. Any links to top Nintendo News sources would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe Rare wasn't such a loss after all. Klonoa or whatever it was never really appealed to me, and hopefully, Metroid Prime can take the place of Perfect Dark (and I hear it does). Other than that, Rares games were mainly clones of Nintendos - Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie - although they were still brilliant (Conker rules). I don't see what they're going to do for Microsoft anyway, the Xbox has enough FPS's and I dont think the typical Xbox player will enjoy roaming around happy lands as fluffy little creatures, because obviously that doesn't involve any realism or hardcore blasting action.

The whole thing about people selling off Gamecube stuff is because of the games not selling - when argos introduced its offer of a cube with a game and a memory card for £80, they sold over 5000 in a few days. Now, a lot of games that were canned, like V-Rally, are back on the release lists.
Crystal Chronicles is a guaranteed, trust me. Nintendo have secured lots of good games for cube only, so it should be good in the future. Don't forget F-Zero and Sonic 2. Mario 128 is on the way, yes, and its apparantly gonna be a huge leap forward after Mario Sunshine, which was totally brilliant, but basically Mario 64 advanced. Thats not a bad thing, but its not gonna turn heads like Mario 64 did all those years ago. Metroid Prime is on the way as well, but not for ages. Also, Starfox armada - ever play Starwing on SNES? Cos this is gonna blow it out of the water!
For the best ninty news, go to Total Games and click on CUBE.
Oh and Rare isn't a huge loss - Starfox adventures was brilliant, but it took 5 years to make, and it shoulda been so much better given the time taken to make.

Thanks for the link. I despise that Argos deal, mainly because I decided to start hunting for a decently-priced Gamecube the day after it ended. Argos are never in stock anyway. I cancelled my Amazon order and bought my Gamecube in town today, as it was cheaper - Metroid Prime pack, with a free Smash Bros. I've been playing Smash Bros for the past four hours, and the new modes are brilliant.
As for the games, F-Zero X was great and completely beat the hell out of Wipeout. The latest Sonic games have been a bit crappy though, so I'm not too excited about that. As for Starfox, well I've heard bad things about Starfox adventures, and although it's definitely on my list, it's not at the top. A new Lylat-Wars / Starwing type game would be welcomed with open arms though, with the option to shoot down Slippys ship and laugh hysterically included.

Nothing really compares rpg gameplay wise to the early square rpgs (chrono trigger, mana and FF6).
Im thinking of getting a PS2 and a gamecube... mainly because i like my serious games (GTA vice city, splinter cell, metal gear solid) but I also like the classics (mario, zelda etc).
Recently bought an N64 for 35£ off ebay been playin mario64 quite a bit and waiting for majoras mask to arrive. Wheres the best place in the uk to buy PS2 and gamecube? Any good deals floating about?

I also cuss that Argos deal bad, I got a gc a week before Scabb and there wasnt an Argos in the country that had a gc for their 80 quid price.
Everywhere is doing the £130 packs at the moment. At Virgin it comes with a free memory card. Scabb's EB deal sounds far better though. Dixons are selling off their gamecube stuff too, so its good to look there for games and peripherals, there's some hefty discounts to be had.
