Hire on Demand -- scoundrels, mercenaries, and scum of the galaxy

Here is a synopsis of Hire on Demand, the original Star Wars: Battlefront clan.

THE CLAN
What are the requirements for joining?
There are a couple of requirements, and none of them are difficult.
--1. [HD] is a PlayStation2/PC clan. If there is enough demand, we may include an X-box division.
--2. No cursing will be tolerated. Not on the headset, not in the chatrooms. Slang and trash-talk are okay.
--3. Please don't submit any names of famous Star Wars characters. Role-play in-game will be encouraged, so use your imagination and come up with an original character.
Hire on Demand will be based on fun and consideration o other players. There is never any rules about how oten you must play or how skilled you are.
Is there a ranking system?
Currently, there is no ranking system due to the fact that players join and drop occasionally. There's nothing more frustrating than being a "recruit" on a team of "admirals", "vice-admirals", and "super-admirals".
Will [HD] be involved in ladder matches?
As soon as a good ladder is created and we have at least 10 members, we will play ladder matches.
Until then (or if the ladder is a flop), we will utilize the in-game conquest mode for clan wars.
This isn't going to be a huge, impersonal clan, is it?
Absolutely not. Our maximum number of players at any time will be 16. This way players will learn each other's voices and tactics and be able to play with each other regularly without wondering "what ever happened to <so-and-so>?"
What kind of tactical order can we expect?
For the fun of tactical combat, players will be separated into groups of four and given general objectives. Squads are as follows:
--Rancor Squad will be composed of footsoldiers and designated mainly toward defending captured outposts.
--Mynock Squad will be mainly pilots and will be in charge of air support and transport.
--Bantha Squad will be more soldier classes, but in offense instead of defense. Includes two specialist spots.
--Wampa Squad will be the snipers and their support.
Players will recieve a designation according to their squad.
How does your clan compare to others?
Hire on Demand will be very nOOb-friendly, as we were all once nOObs ourselves. That said, we will not have a complicated ranking system other than whatever the game provides (if any). We focus on fun rather competition amongst ourselves.
There will be some inside competition (there always is), but rather than let one person decide who's better and post it on a webpage, we'll let our players prove it on the battlefield.
We do not plan to have over 16 players -- this gets sticky, especially when you start appointing lieutenants, trainers, squad leaders, etc. There will be myself (Van Lingo, leader), my confidant (Max Weatherford, co-leader), and 14 other fun-seeking players.

THE PLAN
Games like Counterstrike, Battlefield:1942, and SOCOM 2 have ladders and clan wars. Will [HD] have them, too?
Oh, yes. As stated before, if there is a decent ladder, we will be on it. If not, we will use the game's conquest mode and record the stats on our website.
How often and when will [HD] play?
Hire on Demand operates on Central Standard Time. We will play roughly three nights per week, usually around 9:00 or 10:00 PM. As with the X-box idea, if there is a need for a separate division for different times of the day, that's a later possibility.
Upcoming clan games will be posted on the "War News" section on the website.
What's with the "Tales" section on the website? Other clans don't have one...
That is a section reserved for background stories. It will be an archive of history for each player and eventually for fictions inspired by actual battles played.

THE MAN
Who is Van Lingo?
In the Star Wars universe, Lingo is a stereotypical smuggler. He has spent his share of time among well-known scoundrels such as Han Solo, Jivva Leea, Wade Vox, and other scum of the galaxy.
The Battle of Mindar will introduce Van Lingo as the leader of Hire on Demand. It will be posted on the website's "Tales" section.
Who is Lingo is real life?
James M, a 21-year-old gamer from Beaumont, Texas.
Goes by the name [F5] Hitman on SOCOM 2 and VanLingo on the EA Games network.
Who is Max Weatherford?
Max will also be introduced in the Battle of Mindar tale.
He also goes by [F5] Troll on SOCOM 2 and ImDaTroll on the EA Games network.
He is an incredible sniper and will be very useful to [HD] as a vehicle/turret gunner.
What kind of experience does Lingo have?
-- X-wing Alliance: Scoundrels -- as Van Lingo
Scoundrels was my first clan. We flew in GameBattles.com's WeekOfWar, but dissolved due to inactivity shortly after.
-- Star Wars: Galaxies: Scoundrels -- as Van Lingo
During SWG's development, the Scoundrels were known as the first SWG clan on the Sony forums. After two years, we dissolved due to SWG's terrible final review.
-- SOCOM / SOCOM 2: Faction 5 -- as Hitman
One of the longest-running rosters on SOCOM, Faction 5 has enjoyed many victories and losses while managing to stay focused on fun.

This looks like a very promising clan. I will add you to my list in A Guide to Clans and wish to talk with you on AIM.

what army are you using? rebs, imps, droids, or clones? I might join, but i thought the max for ps2 was 16(8v8) It sounds good, but I'll have to get more experience in the game beofre thinking about joining.

I was thinking it over, and once I play the game a bit, I'd be glad to join. I mean, you do alot of role playing, which is fun, and yeah, it sounds fun. Um, I'd get it for the ps2. What army do we be? just tewll me and I'm in.

(I tried to PM you, but it wasn't working for a while.)

The max for PS2 is 8 vs 8, but you'll very rarely ever get all 16 people on at one time. In the case that we do, we can just skirmish against each other.

As far as what army we'll be -- it's always a good idea to try all of them, for 3 reasons:
1. To know your way around each army's strengths/waknesses.
2. Sometimes the other team will whine until they get their favorite, which may be your favorite too.
3. If you jump into a game late, you probably won't get to pick, cause the game usually automatically keeps even teams.

But... if we ever get the choice, we will probably prefer the Clone Army. Rebels get second place.

nice, very well organized. Very creative. I dont know what squad to be best at, so if I'm in, I'll just go with regular infantry. I like your system and your way of thinking, how not everyone will be on at once. genius. Do I have to try out for it once the game comes out or is it first come first serve? Just looked at the roster, I'd like Rancor squad if possible. as a soldier.

Not genius, just experience.
And, no, you don't need to tryout. As long as you can follow the 3 joining requirements.

ok, I have a ps2 with network adapter. I am a christian, so I wont cuss, but if aggravated or excited enough, might spout out incomprehensible jibberish. and Yaeb Ginn is my role playing name.

Can I be in Rancor squad? Cause i'm not much experienced at much besides reg. infantry

E-mail me with:

1. In-game name - Yaeb Ginn
2. Requested squad - Rancor
3. E-mail address

Anything else (such as location, age, etc.) we will gather later, once our roster gets a little heavier. Right now I just need the basics.

Oh, and: if your character has any kind of history, you are more than welcome to put it in short-story form and send it in. These will be viewable to everyone and gives us all an idea as to what kind of character you'll portray.

I might join... if the dutch clan won't work out well... Especially the 'tales' section intruiges me... Can we all write our own background story?

If i join you, Antakah might seee me as a traitor... But it seems like a good plan... Can you perhaps keep a spot open for me? Then i'll decide later.

Skuttle, I'll just list you as Skuttle. And I got your e-mail address. The last thing I need is what class you think you might prefer.

Doomgiver, in your case, I'll just mark a Reserved spot. But I need to know what spot you want.

Yaeb, I got your info. Just e-mail me the brushed-up version whenever you get done.

Of course. Positions may not even be permanent -- it depends on how the game is played out.

But there may be some positions (like pilot or sniper) that will depend on player committments.

right, but right now, soldier seems best, but later, medic may seem better, or heavy weapons. I almoost definitely want to stay in rancor squad. imo, its the best squad. no offense to the other squads.
and when u gonna add me to the roster? not complaining, just curious. oh, and can I be a writer, too. I write on fanfiction.com and I used to suck, but my awesome idea for a story is on hold until a book comes out that'll give me info on kit fisto.

I live in the east coast, and I set the clock on the forum to central so i can keep track, but if we played at ten, I'd have to stay up really late. I mean, thats ok if its on friday night and maybe saturday night, but can we go more towards 8-9? Cause I have school, granted, my schedules lax due to homeschool, but I also have church sunday morning, so the earlier the better? can you try to do anything towards that, I know you have schedules, too, but can you do what you can?

skuttle and doomgiver, what r u gonna be? oh, and my friend wants to join, but he doesnt know what he wants to be yet, so once he calls me back, I'll let you know. so far, its between soldier, pilot, heavy weapon, and smuggler. I think he's leaning towards pilot, though. I'll let you know probably tomorrow.

Yaeb -- before I answer your questions, let me throw you a quick hint: If you're the last one to post, instead of posting again, you can use the Edit button to add onto your last message. Just make a new paragraph -- keeps things simple.
The Edit button is at the bottom of your post (kinda hard to see).

Now, to answer you --

Quote:
when u gonna add me to the roster? not complaining, just curious.
You have been added to the roster. I just have to upload the page. By the time you read this, it should be updated.

Quote:

You most definitely can be a writer. If you'd like, I'd be more that happy to help you edit your stories (no offense meant, but I'm an egghead for punctuation and spelling). Just send them in an e-mail, and I'll upload them and give you full credit.

Quote:

This we'll have to see about. If you mean 8:00 or 9:00 Central time, that will probably be okay. But I'm not sure.
Don't get any warts over small issues like this just yet. I like my team to play together, so we'll get it worked out closer to September.

yeah, I was talking to my friend, and I realized I dont have to play every time you guys play, I can go once or twice a week instead of thrice. it'll work. I'll call my friend today and see what he wants to be, cause he sounded really interested. how long does the site take to update? cause Im seeing nothing. Hey, other groups might not have medics, so far, only the rebs have them, so whats every1 else gonna do? say I'm a medic and we be the imps, would I be the imp match for medic or would I just be able to be whatever I wanted in that circumstance? Like, ony the rebs and possibly the clones have medics. clones is just guess, cause maybe the ARC will have medic skills. nm, I see it now. oh, the imps have a medic, the officer is their medic. arc is probly clones. and droids dont have one. when I'm bored, I re-read your description of the clan, man, it sounds good. Who is the newest sniper for wampa squad? is that skuttle? Oh, and my friend (who hasnt decided on what he wants to be yet) wanted to know if their are seperate leaders of each squad, or if its just you and max?

So we're all on the same page, I wont be playing online until maybe a week after I buy it. (which'll be the day or one or two after it comes out) Cause I want to be able to get the controls the way I like them, play as each unit of every army, and just get...good. not great, but at least I'll know the terrain. I cant believe the game is so far away. Well, the summer flies by, right? man, septemeber, thats so far. Man, and episode 3 is even farther. whew.

Yeah, I hear ya there. But it will be here before you know it.

As soon as you get your controls straight, it may be a good idea just to go ahead and get online. Or at least set the bot difficulty very high.
Playing against real players is waaay better practice. You can play against bots for six months and still suck online. Trust me on that one.

Yeah, but I do want to get a feel for each army, that way I have an advantage, but as soon as I do, I'll be playing. I suck at SOCOM. I'm used to the controls of Conflict Desrt Storm, which is similar, but just different enough to screw you up. I'm stuck on the thrid level, where you have to take out that castle. My brother is gonna go in with me for the cord to hook it up to online. he wants it for socom and I want it for battlefront. hey, my frined'll come over later, and I'll put him on here. cya til then. he came over and I showed him the site. Lingo, do you read styar wars books? I'm a pretty good reader, too. I read LotR when I was in third grade, and while LotoR is better written, Star Wars books are the best, IMO. S.E. Hinton books are good, has anyone read SE Hinton?

Lemme start out with saying that I'm not editing my past post for two reasons. 1. to bump this thread and so van wouldn't think that this was my same post when it said last posted by. 2. it has nothing to do with my last post.

What are we gonna do with the droids? There are only five of them and all. I can see what we'll do with pilot, sniper and heavy weaopons. and maybe the medic can be a pilot, since he comes with a tool to fix droids. but what is the reg. infantry and spy gonna do? Here's my opinilon. reg infantry gets to be super battle droid, and spy bes the droideka. your opinions please.

XoRRoX, your story has been uploaded. I edited the punctuation for you -- some of it was a little bit off.

Yaeb, you bring up a very interesting point. But the positions are only temporary anyway; they're just to give us an idea of what the squads will look like.

Within the next four weeks or so, I will be sending out an e-mail that will define our structure a little bit more.

Remember, too, that we will be mercenaries for hire, which means that we probably won't be droids too often.

I think it could be a good idea to have squad leaders? It could be chosen by the members in the clan in a voting

no, cause if say, I, rally secretly enough people, we culd pverthrow lingo, and he's a good leader, and he created the clan. It'd be mean to throw him out of power. if we were droids, I'd wanna be super, they look neat.

Well, the last thing I'm worried about is an overthrow.

We will have squad leaders, but I'm going to be very, very careful about it.
We'll discuss it more when the forums go up in August.

if you're not worried, then you are alot less paranoid then me. who is the reseved in rancor squad? no one is in wampa squad, that kinda blows. man, it just hit me, babies learn to speak. it sounds obvious, but think about it. we speak english, yet if I grew up in japan, I would be taught japanese, a language totlally strange to me. think about it.
